Chriz Review : Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (video game)

I thought we needed more reviews on here and I buy a lot of movies and games so I plan to do one a month.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Story : Not much to tell here as I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who has not seen it. So I'll steal the line from the classic theme tune to sum this up "Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons" there you go.

But the story mode surprisingly doesn't have any cut-scenes. besides a couple of mintues and a few cutscenes of "you team crowed around to tell you what to do next." I guess really the story is lacking greatly. If you have not seen the movie you may be thinking "What just happened?" or "Why am I doing this?"


Gameplay - The controls can be a bit tricky at times e.g transform requires you to keep button pressed to transform and hold it in. They should have really made it something like 1 button transforms 1 button accelerates but they didn't. However you can learn them pretty fast and play with them well.

One problem the game has is A.I. Let me explain. Some have the exact same pattern e.g transform to robot and land on roof. Shoot you till you get close or shoot back then transform to helicopter and transform to robot and land on roof. It is repetitive. Over A.I is too free, By this I mead they just run off all over the place which makes it annoying as you get medals (bronze , silver , gold and platinum) based off how fast you do the level.

There is however a lifesaver to the A.I. Multiplayer. Onlne Multiplayer is a blast, You chose your side and character then fight it out online. It is really fun. You have complete accesses to weapons and special abilities (e.g Optimus Prime has an energy shield to guard against projectiles) and there are downloadable content for this on it's way. I'll get to that later.


Design First the graphics. Here is a picture :



The reason I showed a picture is graphics can be subjective i.e you may not like the same graphics as others. However I really like the graphics in this game. They capture the movie look well which is pretty good.

Now extras, it has 6 Generation 1 episodes to unlock (3 on each story mode.) That was really nice touch to have them as unlockables. other unlockable stuff includes : Concept art, Fake propaganda posters (hilarious touch), G1 paint jobs for Starscream and Ironhide. Not really an extra but Frank Welker voices Megatron instead of Hugo Weaving, That really adds something for G1 fans.


Downloadable content is also coming. It features over 10 new characters including g1 starscream (not just paint the actual model) 3 new maps for online, new characters for single player campaigns. Expert difficulty mode to add more challenge single player wise, New Achievements and Trophies.

That will certainly help add more to the best part of the game IMO the multilpayer.


Conclusion :

Pros -
Lots for G1 fans
Multiplayer is great
Extras on the way

cons -
No cinematics
some bad A.I

I say if don't use online the game is really not worth buying as for the same price you could buy the dvds of G1 and get more episodes or buy another game you had your eye on.

However if you use online this game is more than meets the eye (shut up lol you knew that had to be done)
