Why did zordon demote Jason?
 

it seemed pretty odd that Zordon just made Tommy leader in "White Light". Jason was the leader and there was no reason to demote him.

Zordon foresaw that Jason was going to the peace conference. So he made Tommy the leader in preperation for that.

I think there are a few reasons for it.

1. Zordon presumed Zack, Trini and Jason were going to be leaving his team of Rangers since he was usually pretty good about predicting things and always being ready for them.

2. even if he didn't predict them leaving it's entirely possible that he eventually decided that Jason wasn't leadership material since he would always get too overemotional.

3. Zordon likely felt that it was time to reward Tommy due to all of the issues that he went through from being an evil Ranger to losing his powers to regaining his powers on a temporary (sp?) basis to finally losing them all together.

This is what really started to turn me away from Tommy. It was rediculus that he was made leader over Jason. Especially after Jason just saved the whole team from losing their powers. This is the start of what became the Tommy show. Which went on until Turbo. Where it unfortunatly became the Justin show. But then we got Space at least

Zordon soured on Jason, Zack, and Trini. This was the beginning of the end of the three as Rangers. Zordon saw this as a perfect opertunity to start lhasing them out. And once he found Rocky,Adam, and Aishia all he had to do was wait for them to be ready to become Power Rangers. Lets not be niave, Zordon used his pull to get the three former Rangers on the peace conference.

The Power Rangers are a team. The MMPR Rangers were almost perfect a lot of the time. Tommy was the better canidate and Jason was big enough not to stand in his way. Its not something that would have been an issue.

It was obviously an issue at some point. Jason brought it up when he returned in Zeo. With how Jason, Zack, and Trini seemed to not be around towards the end of their run as Rangers....I think there was developing friction on the team. Zordon wanted Jason out and made Tommy leader. Once the honeymoon period of Tommy's return was over ....Jason and Tommy started to fight. And once things boiled over Zack and Trini took Jason's side. Zordon than arranged for the three to go on the peace conference so he could replace them. Notice how they didn't choose their replacements like Kim and Aishia and the Turbo Rangers?

I think some of you guys have too many conspiracy theories on you're mind. Tommy was made leader because he was the best Ranger. Jason understood this and helped in any way he could. Jason, Zack, and Trini just happened to be selected to the peace conference. Thus forcing the power transfer.
