This is something new from Disney, so I wonder if it'll become one of their classics.

It's actually a studio Ghibli film that Disney dubbed and is releasing in the US. Studio Ghibli is most definitely the most amazing animation studio...ever. They're responsible for My Neighbor, Totoro, Princess Monnonoke, Spirited away, etc. Seriously, regardless of the Disney label, I highly recommend seeing a few studio Ghibli films if you haven't (Nausica of the Valley of the wind if you can). I personally can't wait to see this movie!

You wouldn't have expected Disney to release a CGI movie either, until Pixar made Toy Story. Now Disney own Pixar, they liked their work so much.

Who knows, they may rule the world one day with their power now. Lol anyways back to the movie, Id like to see it though, it looks cute and with their cast i think it'll be enjoyable.

Ponyo was an absolute delight. Gorgeous visuals that just made your eyes adhere to the screen.
It was cute, charming, sweet, but had a message to tell, and definitely let the kids be kids, and allowed us (who are growing older) to see the world through their eyes...and it was beautiful.
A wonderful film for all ages, and I highly recommend it.

I loved Ponyo. I loved the look I loved the cast, Everything! I only had one problem with the film.
There was no real conflict. The movie touched upon the fact that Ponyo needed to be either human or magic, but it never really played out as anything other than that big scene where Ponyo returns to find Souske. There really wasn't a bad guy although they started to set up Ponyo's father as one. I still liked it, but it just seemed to lack the fantastic story conflicts that make all of Miyazaki's other works some of my favorites.

The conflict was deeper than good vs. evil.
It was about humanity vs. nature.
Ponyo's father wasn't evil, just misguided, and her mother set him and the rest of the world, straight.
We've abused our planet, we've polluted it, we've torn it to shreds. When Ponyo wreaked havoc on the oceans and brought back the prehistoric sea life, the world was returning to what it once was. The sea life was thriving, the oceans were full, and the world was once again quiet and devoid of polluting humans.
Kids will most likely never get that message until they're older, though it's rather subtle, so I'm not sure most adults will either (I even had to do some research to figure out what the heck Miyazaki was trying to get across to us)
Once Ponyo gave up her powers and chose to be human, and Sosuke promised to love her, the world returned to it's current state.
If Sosuke was willing to love a human, and he was willing to love the wildlife around him, he was in perfect balance with the world. He helped Ponyo save the world by making a difference.
Pretty deep for a kid's film, eh? Odd factoid I found out... this is the first Gihbli film to receive a G, since 1998.

I got the message. But I'm saying that there was no moment when all of the events swelled to a moment of intense emotion. There was some, but it all seemed to resolve itself easily.

Ah. I gotcha now.
I'm not sure it absolutely needed intense emotion. I think the sweetness handled it pretty nicely. Though, I do think that if it had been any sweeter, you might need to get checked for Diabetes when it was all said and done.

My brother said the same thing when we went to see it. He just turned to our friend as whispered that the film was giving him diabetes.
