Hey I'm working on this story about vampires and werewolves, I don't have a title yet but i'm open to suggestions. Any feedback or improvements would be appreciated. Thanks!
Preface
As she stumbles through the door of her apartment she realized she had been bitten. She took a few shaky steps before she collapsed onto the floor. Everything was spinning, she couldn’t see straight. Burning pain was coursing through her body as she struggled to stay conscious. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a figure coming toward her. Then all went black.
Chapter 1
“Come on now, you really need to wake up.” said a very soft voice coming from somewhere, sounding like it was more in my head then anything.
Everything was blurry when I finally opened my eyes. My neck hurt and my head was pounding. Maybe I was imagining the voice, maybe I just had too much to drink, maybe…
“It’s not a dream, it really happened” said that same soft voice I thought I had imagined.
Suddenly everything came into focus, everything was clear and bright, details were popping out at me, way better then my vision had been. I began searching for the source of that lovely voice, and then I spotted her. Standing in the corner of what I saw to be a bedroom was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She was petite with the longest golden blonde hair I had ever seen. It was her eyes that stood out to me the most, they were a piercing blue, almost like crystals. The sunlight reflected off her skin as if diamonds were imbedded in her skin, sparkling as she walked towards me.
“My name is Lena, Lena Bauntelle, don’t worry, you are safe here. How are you feeling?”
“I’m” I stopped, my voice sounded different, light almost eerie to me. How I would imagine a flute would sound had it a voice.
“I’m fine, feeling better anyways” I was finally able to complete my sentence.
To my surprised she laughed, maybe laugh was the wrong word but it was the closest that came to my mind It was a beautiful sound, sad but beautiful.
“Don’t worry, you’ll feel better in no time.” she replied.
I sat up to get out of bed, when she didn’t object I got out of the bed to get a better look around. Everything in the bedroom looked antique, from the pale gold walls to a large antique mirror in the center of the room. As I stepped toward the mirror to get a better look I couldn’t believe what was reflected back at me. What stared back at me was far from what I had remembered looking like. My hair, naturally brown looked nearly black, shining brilliantly around my face. My eyes were glowing like dark blue sapphires, sparkling almost, but piercing all the same. All those dark features were such a contrast to the moonlight colored skin now covering my body, shimmering every time I moved and the sunlight caught it.
“ wh… what happened to me?” my voice shaking so uncontrollably the question was barely Understandable.
“Do you not remember what happened 3 days ago?” Lena asked, worry was creasing her brow.
“Three days? I’ve been out for three days, are you kidding me? What happened to me?” I was so upset I was screaming
“Calm down please, you were attacked 3 days ago, I sensed it happening and went to save you, I was nearly late you were nearly gone. I brought you here when you collapsed. This is our safe place. ”
My head was spinning, I was attacked, by what, who was this girl and how did she know where I would be. A safe place, safe place for what, I wanted answers
“What do you mean a safe place? A safe place for what?” I asked, my voice sounding angry.
“We are vampires” she said, like it was nothing at all
That was it, I lost it, vampires don’t exist, what was she talking about? Why would vampires need a safe place? And then as if she could read my mind, she answered my questions
“Vampires do exist, humans just don’t know about us. As for why we need a safe place, vampires have enemies just like anyone would, not all vampires are the same, those of us who live here, and of course some others out there, refrain from drinking human blood, we think that human life is precious and drinking their blood takes the life away from them. There are other vampires however that can not help themselves, they give into their blood lust and choose to feed off of humans. Also, as you can see vampires exist, as does our most dangerous enemy. Werewolves, they are the most ruthless creatures known to humans and vampires alike. They do not discriminate, they do not care, though out hearts no longer beat, it is theirs that are as cold as ice. You would do well to never come across a werewolf, it may be the last thing you ever do.”
I looked at her and was shocked to see that her eyes looked like blue fire, the passion from her speech spilled out into the room, sending a chill down my spine.
“How do you keep humans from knowing about vampires and werewolves with some of them running around like the animals they are?” I asked eager to know how the world doesn’t know about our existence.
“It is not easy but for the most part, humans tend to use excuses for missing people and attacks, they believe that other humans can be more animal like, disassociating from themselves to be able to commit such horrible crimes. As for those of us who do not drink human blood it is a bit easier, though we can not go out in the daylight because of how our skin glows we live life fairly normally, we go to school we have jobs we have assimilated into the human world very nicely.”
I just looked at her, too many thoughts were running through my head, I was a vampire, we had werewolves as enemies, I could live in the human world, and I would never die. So many changes in so short of time and life as I knew it was going to change drastically, how many human experiences was I going to be missing out on? She had mentioned school, was I going to be going to school? What kind of school, what for? Again I got the feeling that Lena could read my mind as a smile played along her lips.
“Relax Jaelyn, I’ve done my research and picked a good school for you to go to. You’ll enjoy it. I enrolled you already, your classes will begin in one week. This will give you some time to get use to your new life. You’ll be majoring cellular biology, one of you favorite subjects when you were in high school.”
I froze
“How did you know my name? I didn’t tell it to you.” I stuttered, sounding like an idiot.
“ I told you I have done my research, I know a lot about you, but as for your name, I am a mind reader, I was able to see your name in my head.” Lena said with an air of superiority.
“So where will I be attending school” I asked growing more and more curious.
“You will be attending My Sweet Mercy College. It’s a small college, very nice and very well hidden. Very few students attend this school and most of them are like us.”
Just then there was a soft knocking on the door
“Is everything ok in there?” asked a voice that sounded as if it belonged to a French male model, you know those suave men who can make your knees go week just by saying hello, sophisticated with a hint of arrogance that most men tend to posses.
“Come on in Junebug, She is finally awake” sounding as if people had been waiting for me to come around.
I didn’t have time to worry about it, the door swung opened and my jaw hit the floor. He was tall muscular and so very handsome. He had the same shimmering skin that Lena and I possessed, but his eyes were so very different from the blue I was use to seeing. His eyes were the color of new spring grass, green with a hint of yellow. His hair was almost platinum, very short, and spiked at odd angles, almost messy like he just woken up from sleep, but planned. About a second later I realized he wasn’t wearing a shirt and I took in all those muscles. He had a 6 pack that would make any man green with envy and biceps as big as my thigh. Who knew someone could be that muscular.
“Well good morning sleepy head. It’s good to finally see you awake.” He turned to Lena, “So how much does she know, did you tell her everything?”
“I told her everything, listen to her thoughts, questions flying around going every which direction, we picked a good career for her, the science field will do her well.”
“Shall we introduce her to the others? She’ll need to become familiar with them before she goes off to school tomorrow.”
They both looked at me to see what my opinion was.
“Sure why not.” still amazed at how different my voice sounded.
We all exited the door and into a beautiful hallway, I should have knows just from the size of the bedroom that the rest of the house would be just as large and exquisite The staircase had a brass handrail and what looked like solid oak stairs. Antique carpets we spaced every few feet along the hallway. Portraits were hung on the walls, each one of them more beautiful then the last. Somehow the artist was able to capture that sparkling skin each of the vampires, myself included, possessed, was able to capture the passion in each persons eyes, all different but each one burned into you. I noticed that they were not your normal eye colors either, though mine could hardly be considered normal, I saw shades of violet, gold, red, even greens that were most uncommon. We walked down the stairs into a large sitting room where I saw about 6 other vampires. All heads turned when I entered the room, I could feel their curiosity emanating from each of them.
“Everyone this is Jaelyn, Jaelyn from left to right we have Melanie Rose but she prefers Melrose, Giovanni, Rhea, Dakota, Jadine and her boyfriend Blake. Melrose, Rhea, Dakota and Blake are all in their sophomore yr. You Jadine and Giovanni are starting your freshman yr. Jadine and you are both science majors and Giovanni is majoring in photography.”
I stared at the faces looking back at me, all of them breathtaking. Melrose had the palest lavender eyes, hinted slightly with grey. Her hair was cut short and pixie like; it was a brilliant bronze color. Giovanni hit me like a blast of hot air, anger poured from him. His pale gold eyes held nothing but bitterness. His black hair curled around his shoulders, his skin tone was also different from the others, as if he had a dark tan, permanently adding a bit of color to his skin, making him look dark compared to the rest of us. I looked back at his face and his eyes burned hatred into mine until I had to look away. Rhea was next. The first thing I noticed was her eyes, a startling blue green, the color of the ocean. What made me stop at her eyes was the sadness within them, I wondered what made her so sad. Her hair fell down to her knees, pin straight and pure silver. I noticed she was about my height but she had long lean muscles. When I looked back at her face I could still feel sadness pouring out of her eyes, she quickly looked away as if she had said too much. The next in line was Dakota and I noticed she was the only one with a smile dancing across her lips. Her dark brown hair was cut short and choppy. Her eyes were the color of amethyst, and though she had a smile on her face her eyes were dull and lifeless, no pun intended. Jadine was next, she was small, petite, and her hair was a soft very light brown so light it was almost blonde. Her eyes took me by surprise, they were a deep ruby red, such a difference to the eyes that I had seen. Last but not least was Blake and he was the most different of them all. His hair was a short spiky blue, kind of like the cookie monster color. His eyes were a steely grey, and he was the only one that was a bit more muscular but on the shorter side.
“ Ok now Jaelyn your going to be rooming with Jadine, just to keep the story up that you are freshman, you have on campus dorms, but the school is only 10 minutes away so you can come and go as you please. School starts next week so you will be able to move in next Saturday.”
One week and I would be starting my new life in the world of humans, how strange a thought seeing as not a week ago I was part of that very world.
