What school rules have you had that were weird, pointless, or just plain stupid?

Primary School:
We weren't allowed to tie sweatshirts around our waists.
You weren't allowed to throw small rocks into these large bodies of water that would form when it rained heavily. Because somehow someone could fall in and drown or something. Even though it was about a foot deep.

Secondary School:
Until you stepped foot in your own home, you apparently were still considered to be at school and had to follow school rules and whatnot.
Cameras weren't allowed, even after school - In fact, ESPECIALLY not after school. Because (and get ready for something INCREDIBLY stupid) - They thought that it could end up blinding someone.
Detentions were issued for low grades on schoolwork.
You had to have straight A's to go to their crappy dances.

Oh,I remember the dinner and dance at my school. I thought it was OK but then I found one of the cool kids[there wasn't much heirachy but I thought he was cool],and he said every time there's a party around here it goes wrong and they had a small problem with the music for a second.

Weird school rules:Uh...Well my college is pretty cheap for printing compared to my old school but I suppose that doesn't count. Well I do hate school uniforms except for some Japanese ones like maybe the sailor suit. That's a weird school rule!

I've never understood the rule my highschool had against wearing hoodies.

Aliques!!!

Yeah, mine did too. They didn't want us to listen to our Ipods. So if our hoods were up, there was no other possible explanation for it other than we were listening to music.

One time in economics class, I asked my teacher if I could go to the bathroom and he asked for my phone so I wouldn't leave just to text/call someone. Now, I never texted during class :p and my phone was in my locker so I told him. He looked at me and was like; "Seriously, Alex, just give it to me." and I'm like "Seriously it's in my locker. Did you ever think that maybe I just have to empty my bowels?" he was pissed. He walked me out in the hall to give me a talk and my locker just happened to be outside his room so I opened my locker and showed him my phone... he shut up real quick...oh good times with Mr. Jones.

We had a spirit week where they had a country day and you couldn't wear hats. No cowboy hats or anything. That one really pissed me off. We also can't wear hoodies and if we are late to class we have to go to lockout in the cafeteria, where they force us to write a summary of a newspaper article. I even put it in one of my stories. No cellphones, if they are on and out, they are instantly taken away. They used to give us a warning to put it away but now they just take it. I hate my school.

We couldn't go up to our lockers during lunch. When we finished, we had to wait in the gym (this was for those who stayed at school for lunch though).
We also weren't allowed to have cellphones on us or keep them in our locker. I always kept mine in my pocket and turned off. I mean, if there's an emergency, at least I'd have my phone on me.

The middle school I went to had drink machines in the cafeteria but students weren't allowed to buy drinks out of them.

My guess is that the drink machines were for the staff

The staff did use them some but there were already drink machines in the teacher's/staff lounges.

Yeah that was something about my school too. We had vending machines that could be used before and after school, not during, not even during lunch. In my freshman year, we could go to them during lunch but they put an end to that, probably to save money because people would buy excessively and they were out of drinks very often.

My old high school had a similar but different policy. We had machines as well, soda, snack, and even an ice cream one, however they were only to be used during Lunch periods or after school (they were deactivated during the rest of the day, ie during cafeteria study halls and what not).

Also, no one in my school district was allowed to carry backpacks. You coul bring them to school but then they had to go into and stay into your lockers.

That is such an awesome story. :D

I went to a private, religious school that started out as a K-10 school but became a K-12 school. I went there all 13 years. Anyway, we started having these weekly meetings in the gym just after lunch that all high school students had to attend or they would get marked down on attendance, just like they'd get marked down if they missed an actual class. The meetings were mostly us singing religious songs, some brief religious message presented, a prayer, and sometimes actual discussion of school activities that were coming up. Anyway, one time I just didn't feel like standing up for a song because I thought that the dancing that somehow became associated with the song was retarded. For some reason, my math teacher had a bug up his ass about making everyone at least stand for the song. When I refused to stand up, he sent me to the principal's office. After talking with the principal, he took my side and told me that he'd have a talk with my math teacher. :D

Something else my school did with attendance that was weird was that they counted the school fair as a normal school day. If you didn't show up to the school fair on Sunday, you technically missed an entire day of school each year.

There was a rule on the books that prohibited shows of affection, so theoretically we couldn't kiss each other, hug each other, or hold hands. Couples usually snuck off to kiss each other, but the teacher's would turn a blind eye when they saw couples holding hands, and hugging was pretty pervasive because the teachers didn't seem to give a shit about hugs.

The dress code was pretty strict and they were considering standardized uniforms at one point. I think they did briefly switch to standardized uniforms after I graduated, but I guess my mind could be fabricating a memory. Anyway, I never really liked the strict dress code because it kept the girls mostly covered up. I still managed to see a handful of pretty cool sights, though. ;)

There was that sicko that gave that girl a detention for hugging wasn't there? Did you read that story?

Sleeveless shirts aren't allowed at my school.

I like it when chicks go sleeveless.:(
