Attention Duelists! (http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20091001006376&newsLang=en)

Saw this on RangerBoard.

Sounds awesome, but will today's kids really go for it?

Who cares, judging by this (http://www.bandai.com/powerrangers/videochallenge/) video I'll finally be able to get a Megazord that looks like the one on the show.

Nice find. It's really cool that the MMPR figures are being reproduced. From the looks of it, no holsters. Which sort of disappoints me. The seem out of place without them. I guess it's something the fans will have to live with. :\

Nevertheless, very cool. I can't wait. Pink Ranger has a skirt. She just doesn't look right without one. :D

That is some good news. Especially to everyone who watched the first seasons.

I just hope they won't rush RPM's end to begin this.

I am wondering if this video that bandai has up is also how they are going to transition back to MMPR from RPM. Because in a way it would make sense because then they could say that they are showing the history of MMPR then goe into a new season down the road.

Came by looking for last saturday's RPM information, not realizing that two episodes had aired, and stumbled into this thread. I guess I can pass this along, since it's already out there. And, for all I know, this information may already be public knowledge...

An old friend of mine involved with the new MMPR passed a little information along that I knew there were already "rumors" circulating about.

The MMPR show will be the first 32 episodes of the original season, with cleaned up footage and updated effects (think the new Star Trek syndicated episodes). I asked if it would be in HD and was told not to expect it to be in HD. So don't go and get your hopes up for that one.

Also, after RPM, the ongoing shows are dead.

That is all. Take it as you will.

Merlin, MMPR is a being remastered....its to do the quality of the episodes to make it look like the show is brand new.

If they were going to spend money on another season, they would've adapted Shinkenger.

This is means they could possibly be released on a Disney Label DVD like the past 3 seasons right? In volumes?

So are they just re airing the original episodes, because it sounds really confusing. There were 60 episodes in the first season. If they are releasing all of the original toys as well could this mean new sculpts of evil figures as well? I would love to see figures of Rita, Scorpina in both modes, Goldar without wings, Finster, Squatt, Baboo and Putty figures all for the 5 1/2" line. New Playsets of the Command Center and Rita's Palace for the first season would be really nice to have. The Pink Ranger looks great in a skirt and I can't wait to get them all. I just am not sure where I am going to fit them all.

This also makes me wonder if they will finally release the DVD sets of MMPR over here in the US to go along with this relaunch because that would be really nice as well as new video games.

Nope. I much rather prefer staying friends with this person.

And they're not cutting the season to 32 episodes. They simply have an order for 32 episodes for the season. So they're doing the first 32. Presumably, the ratings warrant another season, I imagine they'd pick up the next 32 episodes (or whatever the next season's order is) and continue on in succession.

Anyway... that's all I've got. If people don't want to believe it, well, don't then.

blackdinothunder
10-02-2009, 09:54 PM
I think if they were to revamp with new actors with new footage then it would be cool but it would cost them money and right now they are trying to make money without spending much. This would allow them to make money from Bandai releasing new toys as well as the possibility of getting new kids that have never seen the original interested again so that they can release the DVD sets with better sales than with just the original fans buying the DVDs.

IMO mmpr is one of those things that its "originaly charming" like the original star wars trilogy, you cant remake those movies because the charisma of the characters and overall story will suffer.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this news. It'd be kind of weird to see the old show without the odd mistakes that the technology of the early 90s had. Making it almost perfect would feel weird. However, it's pretty exciting that this is coming back. A whole new generation watching the show that started it all.

Omg, I heard about this the other day, This is really freaky an goes along with a strange dream I had, so it goes, The Power Rangers have ended (production wise) everyone knows this, so the "behind the scenes people are like" ok look we've had this show running for a few years now, and for some reason we are compleatly missing our target audience...it appears oddly enough, that the adult or "older" fans are now out numbering our target audience in ratings, viewing, and consumer merchindice..."the general feeling" well, we're done with this awful clash of trying to mesh japanese culture to fit the typical suburban life...lets see if we can't milk the last drop out of this pile of **** , well that would mean....yes bringing back the originals in some form........so Bandai does what they voweld to never do...recrete Mighty Morphin Power Ranger toys, a few one shots here an there...the orignal rangers, a megazord...and a limited edition putty figure..now bandai an disney an other behind the scenes officials are worried/angry that this means...they lose money in other places where they would be able to target the younger audience...such as shoes, dime toys, candy, key chains..what have you...little do they know, cutting of those markets would create such a big backlash...not only with there poor one shot attempt at appesing the audience that they knew they actualy were reaching, even as far back as Ninjastorm....this created an uproar that showed everyone how big the fandom actualy is...and they also got an unexpected result...the "target audience" was finaly back on board...and they all demanded more merchindice...so while bandai/an powers that be felt they'd be loosing money...all of a sunden a huge surge of life and money went back in to what they thought was officialy dead...and thus began aquiring the next sentai for adaptation.) there is more to this but we'll see if it plays out t his way and just to clarify those are not my views and opinions, its how it came to me in the dream...
now on to the figures...kim looks like the best one out of the bunch (refrence the bandai video) but they all look like prototypes...and for custom makers, it'd be a triumph..but for what we've gotten before them ie. green ranger/white ranger/ gold ranger...the quality seems, i don't know...just lacking, (hence me seeing this going along with the quick production styles of my dream) acording to the dream...this is all we will be getting

red, blue, black, (hard to find pink) (hard to find yellow) and a megazord...smaller then the 1993 version, and a limited edition "putty patroller"

...now whatever happend to the pink super legend ranger that was to come out? have they set this aside now?

Pink Ranger has a skirt. She just doesn't look right without one. :D

She also has boobs this time and she doesn't have that non-canon chest power coin. The only complaint I have is that the gloves and boots look a little too big. I hope they haven't already mass-produced figures with that flaw and fix it before the figures hit store shelves. All I have to say is that if Bandai America starts making non-canon toys again, they're going to start getting a lot of complaint letters from me, unless of course they release figures for the rest of the Dairanger team that Saban never used. That would kick ass if they did that. Movie figures with proper sculpting would kick ass too, not to mention a movie-accurate Ninjafalcon Megazord (that's what Tommy called it in the movie).

32 episodes, eh?

That actually makes a lot of sense. I'll guess that this is from "Day of the Dumpster" to "Doomsday" with a few episodes edited out or down (a shorter Green with Evil, perhaps). Really, they don't have any other choice; Doomsday was written as MMPR's finale, and it's the only closure point in the series unless you're going to run all the way to the end of Zeo.

Question
10-03-2009, 06:26 PM
The only *positive* closure point.

How cool would it be to end the series right after Rito destroys the Thunderzords? Last shot, everyone standing in the wreckage, Kim pulling up her short shorts as she wonders what's going to happen next...

"Next week, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue begins!"

Well, would you spend more money on a MMPR DVD set or an OO DVD set? MMPR DVD set or MF DVD set? LOL. Clearly they need to start from the beginning and just forward. Maybe by the time they get to MF people who don't want it now will want it then. LOL. I'd take every season, but I don't want to start something and not be able to finish it!

This will be fun. I kind of hope they DO cut down the entire season to 32 episodes...not just the first 32 episodes, but the entire season condensed into 32 vital episodes. The first three seasons were chock full of filler episodes and that sort of pacing is really out line with the pacing of the current and previous recent seasons and could potentially alienate the younger audience meaning lower ratings and less of a chance that Disney would continue with the series. Since they're not making new seasons anymore, I'd much rather have them continue to re-air the old seasons for as long as possible than have no Power Rangers at all.

I'm really excited about the new toys. It's going to be so awesome to have the first Megazord again.

Question
10-04-2009, 06:53 PM
...really?

Most of those filler episodes were awesome. I'd never want them to shorten the season just because people today are impatient to get to the last episode.

We never know the exact date. The toys just start showing up sometime in November. You just have to keep an eye out.

I wonder why so many people think they're going to replace the original cast with new peeps, wouldn't that be suicide for the show? (if that's not what they really want anyways) ..I mean it would alienate the older fans...which seems like this was geard to...and i'm not sure how much the younger audience would really care...but still..i'd rather power rangers get cancled (yikes!) then butture MMPR seriously...and to mess with one of the best power ranger themes, that is recognizable to almost everyone? why?

I think some people just have a desire to see a new take on something they're already familiar with. A lot of us liked Adam's new morph in Once a Ranger and the brief return of the Green and White MMPR Rangers, as well as the Red Zeo Ranger in Dino Thunder. Adam's short morph in Always a Chance was exciting for a lot of us as well. Plus, a lot of us wanted to see Season 18 rather than reruns from Seasons 1-3. Finally, there have been a number of reboots happening in movies. I think it's a combination of all of those things that's gotten some people interested in the idea of MMPR being rebooted rather than rerun. One advantage to rebooting MMPR is that Trini and Zordon could be played by different actors so that they'd be available for future teamups and/or movies. Plus, a number of plot holes could be resolved or removed by rebooting and Disney would finally have the rights to their own MMPR music. With all of that said, I kind of doubt that they'd be rebooting since they've already broken up the live-action production team and rebooting would be more expensive than simply playing digitally restored reruns.

Evil Green Ranger
10-06-2009, 11:21 PM
I just cant imagin power rangers with out Jason Frank, Amy Jo or Austin..even though he wasn't around for the full run...now I wouldn't mind if they did a reboot of the morphs, cgi is pretty simple to recreate there heads, and the once a ranger morph used static shots for most of the face..so that would be pretty simple...and I know alot of you are going to say cgi would look awful, but it's used alot in power rangers in places you don't even notice...but more often shows like smallville and what not and is actualy cheeper then wire work beleive it or not, and i imagin the zords could be done in cgi...(though for some reason I still feel models are so much better then 3d zords) maybe they'll clash them together, the physical models and cgi

and for those wondering how they could take ron's music out (which i seriously hope they dont even try) they probably have archived episodes without soundeffects and music and a library of diffrent sound effects and voice overs.. or they could digitaly remove the music it's not worth going in to lol

Airing sixty episodes of a nearly twenty year old show is so, so, so much cheaper than trying to make 32 new episodes.

Exactly. RPM is already double bills, often one new and one repeat, but recently two new ones. MMPR will likely be the same, two "new" episodes every week.

Could you imagin if they released the Morphers, with removable face plates, that way if they released all 6 coins, you could have a silver morpher AND a Gold morpher! that'd be awesome... though thinking about it...if they do...just going with there current theme, I imagin they'd be alot smaller..and the blade blaster impossibly small

i like to hear some trance or club dance in the opening with rock on it !
with some computer sounds on it ..

and the morph style like digimon live action and sailor moon live action in the mix together into mmpr morph scene .

Live action Digimon? Wha?

Closest Digimon did was CGI for the Agumon, Gabumon and Veemon/Wormmon digivolutions (Ultimate, Warp, DNA, and Mega). Never live action. The mons would still have to be CGI anyway, so what would be the point? Was you thinking like the season 1 ultimate/warp digivolve sequences?

Red Tyrannosaurus: Its just showing reruns of all MMPR episodes but remastered. The only concern is the opening theme song.

I'm just hoping that Disney knows what they are doing when they say they are "remastering" MMPR. Meaning, I hope they at least make the sound quality and picture quality of season 1 better. Also, it'll be a little weird to see the show on actual TV again. I was 9 when MMPR first aired. I am 25 now.

With only 32 out of the 60 episodes for season 1 being remastered I hope they don't cut out key episodes or jumble up the season to where it doesn't "flow". I guess we just have to wait and see how this turns out. I am a little skeptic right now.

EDIT: Do you think Disney will consider this to be season 18 of PR? I wonder if a remastering of MMPR season 2 & 3 are planned for 2011 & 2012?

I understand that. I was just bringing up a point that I hope they at least touch up the audio and video quality a bit. The technology has improved drastically from 1993 to 2009.

I'm also wondering if this also means we will be getting Blu-Ray releases of both movies?

Disney doesn't have the rights to the movies, so that's Fox's decision.

It is for the first time on blu ray discs ..

Based on the commercials being shown today during the RPM finale, we may not have to worry about the original music being used, cause I did hear the MM theme in the background.

They also showed the original logo, which doesn't make sense because the new logo is all over all of the merchandise.

I noticed that in the promo too...perhaps the new logo is just for the toys

Withthe remastered episodes starting this Saturday I wonder if Disney plans to show more than just season 1 this year? If they are only airing 32 episodes from easch season, they could at least make it through the first two seasons of MMPR this year if they air 2 episodes per week.

So I just saw the toys tonight at Target, and bought up the Megazord and the Alpha w/ Zordon figure. I was so excited when I read the series was being remastered, so I went to check my local listings. Guess what? My local ABC affiliate shows all of the ABC kids line up but the last hour. Instead they air paid programming, so I guess I am going to miss out. ...... sadness

Sorry to hear that, alfers1985. My ABC is showing "Day of the Dumpster" and "High Five" this Saturday! I hope this means they will be showing the episodes in order, regardless if they skip a few or not.

The following week will show "Teamwork" and "A Pressing Engagement." I'd like to think they'll be showing every episode.

that's what i was worried about. is there anything we can do if MMPR isn't showing in our area? Or are we just plain screwed?

The only ideas I can think of is to either watch the episodes when they are uploaded on You Tube or download the torrents if someone uploads them. Most of the time contacting you affiliate will not get you anywhere.

I'm trying to avoid the way of the pirate, if at all possible. I just remembered that their is a second abc affliiate in my area, but not carried by time warner cable. I checked the fcc's website and found that, despite the change to digital this year, the second rural affiliate is still within broadcast range, and they will be showing MMPR. All I need now is an antenna. Gosh this so takes me back to 1993, before I had cable.

Yeah. Besides, MMPR was originally aired basically free of charge on regular TV, so I don't see what the harm would be in watching it free. Sure it would deprive the sponsors of you viewing their advertisements, but does anybody really care if they miss the opportunity to watch commercials?
