Hi guys...I've always liked the Mighty Morphin seasons of the show, those were the best in my opinion and I always thought how interesting it'd be if you took the concept of that show and made it into a more serious adult sci-fi show.
This is my take on how it could be...the first half is just an outline and the second half is a very rough draft of a story (that I actually came up with today :p) that would start off a 'new season' so to speak. It's not extremely detailed or anything, it just sorta plots out where it can go. And yes, I did the fanboy thing and semi-based a new character on myself. But can you blame me? lol

The Power Ranger Universe -- The Firefly Variation
1993-1994 -- Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season One -- Dino Powers
1994-1995 -- Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season Two -- Thunder Powers
1995-1996 -- Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season Three -- Ninja Powers
1996-The Rangers Ninja Powers are somehow destroyed. Zordon is able to find a new energy source and resurrects the Ranger’s Dino Powers and Zords, making them more powerful then ever.
In this Power Ranger’s universe, it’s a more serious take. After Rita Repulsa’s attack and the Rangers first appearance, the U.S. Government and Military naturally wanted to know what was going on.
After several more attacks by Rita, the Military tried their best to stop them, but only the Rangers were able to defeat Rita’s creations. Not only does Rita attack in Angel Grove, California, but all over the United States, and occasionally in other places of the world, with the Rangers right behind them.
Zordon decides to meet with the U.S Government Officials and Military leaders, including the President and they form a partnership. The Power Rangers would not be in Military control, but will work side by side with them, and will only fight against alien threats, not domestic or foreign affairs. The Rangers identities would remain a secret as to protect their families, not even the President knows them. In other words, the Power Rangers are this universe’s Justice League.
The Current Roster is:
White Ranger: Tommy Oliver
Red Ranger: Rocky DeSantos
Blue Ranger: Billy Cranston
Black Ranger: Adam Park
Yellow Ranger: Aisha Campbell
Pink Ranger: Katherine ‘Kat’ Hillard
In late 1996, the alien forces of King Mondo decide to join Lord Zed’s and Rita Repulsa’s forces to try and conquer Earth after conquering their own star system. This causes Zordon to search out another power source, that can create more morphers thus creating another team of Rangers. Tommy and Billy are able to find the long buried Zeo Crystals. Zordon and Alpha are able to use these crystals to create a new power source for a new Ranger team.
The new team, dubbed The Zeo Power Rangers, would consist of six Rangers, led by a former Ranger.
Gold Ranger: Jason Scott
Red Ranger: T.J Johnson
Blue Ranger: Ashley Hammond
Green Ranger: Carlos Vallerte
Yellow Ranger: Tanya Sloan
Pink Ranger: Cassie Chan
The Zeo Power Rangers base of operations would be on the outskirts of New York City. They of course would travel to wherever a crisis would occur.
For the larger crisis’, the Power and Zeo Rangers would combine their efforts.
In 1997, Kimberly Hart is in her final year as an Architect student at a well known Architectural University in Minnesota. She’s been dating a fellow student, named Mike, for the past year. One afternoon when they’re out, they’re attack by a large group of Zed’s Putties, they try to kidnap Kimberly but between her and Mike, they’re able to fend them off and they disappear.
Mike is surprised on Kimberly’s knowledge of how to defeat the Putties by hitting the middle of their Z vest and confused as to why they would want to take her. She confesses to him her former life as a Power Ranger. Naturally Mike is surprised to hear all of this but they both decide that they should travel to California and talk with Zordon to discover why Zed would try and take her.
Once in Angel Grove, Kimberly and Mike arrive at Billy’s house and they tell him what’s happened. He contacts the other Rangers and they teleport to Billy’s house. All Mike can say when he sees this is “Whoah...” The others are brought up to speed and right before they go see Zordon, another, yet larger, group of Putties attack the Rangers in Billy’s house. They try once more to kidnap Kimberly but fail with all eight fighting them off.
The eight finally travel to the Rangers fortress and sees Zordon. Alpha and Zordon are pleased once again to see Kimberly but are alarmed as to why Zed is showing such an interest in Kimberly.
Again, all Mike can say from seeing all this is “Whoah..” After seeing all the news reports over the years involving the Rangers, he’d never imagine seeing them or Zordon in person.
Zordon can not think of a reason why they would want Kimberly. But before they can come up with any ideas, Alpha detects a creature has been sent to Austin, Texas. The Rangers morph and then teleport to try and stop it. Kimberly and Mike stay behind and try to to come up with any ideas behind Zed’s plan.
But minutes later, Alpha detects several signatures outside the fortress. Goldar, Klank, and a group of 30 Putties and Cogs are outside, ready to storm the fortress. Mike asks Zordon if they have any defenses and is told that they do, but with a group of that size he’s not sure, especially after they’re still finishing repairs after the last assault.
The villains eventually are able to break the outer shield and begin to storm inside. Alpha alerts the other Rangers of what’s happening, but they’re busy in their own battle. Mike deduces that the attack in Austin was just a distraction. He asks Zordon where the Zeo Rangers are but Alpha informs them that they are off world. Kimberly asks if there’s an old morpher she could use and Alpha gives her a half charged device and she morphs into the Pink Ranger once more. Mike gets himself a large laser rifle and the two go and try to fend off the coming invaders.
The two fight valiantly but being outnumbered 4 to 1, Goldar is able to defeat Kimberly, her Ranger powers disappear. Mike lunges himself at Goldar but is knocked back and he teleports away with her. Klank and the foot soldiers, right behind.
Moments later in Texas, the creature, almost defeated by the Rangers, disappears and the Rangers return to the fortress. Mike is furious that Kimberly is gone but Kat does her best to try and calm him down and tries to reassure him that they’ll get her back. Tommy suggests that Kat takes him to the infirmary to take care of his injuries that he got in the fight.
On the moon in Zed’s fortress, Kimberly is tied down to a surgical table. She demands why she’s there and Zed tells her of an ancient Egyptian creature, one said to be one of the most powerful creatures ever in the galaxy, but somehow the Egyptians, probably with outside alien help, were able to stop it and then buried it deep under the Earth’s surface.
It’s said that only the blood of the ancestor that defeated the creature can reawaken it and Zed discovered that she has the rare blood they need. He decides to keep her awake for the procedure because he wants her to hurt for “all the trouble she caused years ago.”
They get the blood, with Kimberly unconscious and slowly dying.
Back in the Ranger’s fortress, Alpha detects an extremely large disturbance in Egypt and confirms that a very powerful creature, one more powerful than they’ve ever encountered, has emerged.
Zordon immediately identifies it as the Tortakamu, for it was he that helped the Egyptians defeat it millions of years ago. The Rangers immediately depart for Egypt, with Mike left behind with Alpha and Zordon. Zordon feels terrible that he wasn’t able to deduce that it was Tortakamu that was Zed was after and that Kimberly was attached to it. Mike tells him that it’s not his fault and “Nobody’s perfect...”
Zed teleports the dying Kimberly outside the Ranger’s fortress, against Rita’s and Mondo’s disagreements. He wants to see the Ranger’s see a former Ranger die by his hands.
Zordon teleports her to the infirmary, Mike rushes down to the room where the medical droid tells him that she’s close to death but if they preform an emergency blood transfusion, she might make it...but it’ll be close. Mike tells the droid it better do all that he can. He takes Kimberly’s hand and kisses it, telling her that she’s strong and that she’s going to make it.
Mike taps a communication button on the wall and asks Alpha how the Rangers are doing. Alpha tells him they’re losing considerably. Mike runs to the commander center and sees the battle raging on through the viewing globe...the Rangers getting knocked around by Tortakamu.
Mike pleads to Zordon if there’s anything that he can do to help because they desperately need it and he can’t just stand there watching. Zordon...floating, thinking, then says to Alpha to go retrieve the RD Source. Alpha leaves the room and returns carrying a morpher, handing it to Mike. It’s crafted like the other Ranger’s morphers with a dragon type creature sculpted in the gold coin.
Zordon tells Mike that he recently discovered this new power source, what he calls The Red Dragon Source, but hadn’t told any of the Ranger’s yet because he wanted to have it tested first before putting it in use, but seeing how desperate times call for desperate measures, Zordon feels this is the time. He tells Mike that he’s proven his bravery in battle and his compassion for others and can’t think of a better candidate.
Mike asks Alpha how to use it, in which he responds to just call out ‘Red Dragon’ and to say it like he saw the others when they morphed. Mike asks him how will he know how to use it’s power...Zordon tells him that the morpher will transfer all the knowledge of the armor’s skills and how to call and use the zord if needed.
Mike is naturally anxious, but then holds out the morpher and cries aloud “Red Dragon!” and suddenly morphs into his armor...a red and black suit with a black metal shield.
“Whoah...”
Alpha tells him to just think where he wants to go and he’ll teleport. Mike concentrates, starts to feel a little tingly, and suddenly he appears in a battlefield in Egypt. When he lands there’s a giant explosion behind him (which really makes no sense but that happened all the time in the show haha)
Mike sees Tortakamu smashing the Ranger’s around and then looks up at Mike and growls “Who the hell are you?”
“I’m the Red Dragon Ranger...the last thing you’ll see before you see your pearly maker” Mike yells.
He then chargers, jumps in the air, and pulls a black and red metal sword that materializes from the back of his shield... Tortakamu brings his sword up and they clash as Mike lands in front of him.
He’s able to get some good slashes into Tortakamu. They cross swords, both very fast. The other Rangers are regaining their feet, wondering who the Ranger is, Tommy saying that it must be Mike. Tortakamu gets in a lucky upper cut and smashes Mike into the air and lands in front of the others.
Adam helps him up. Tortakamu yells if that’s all he got. Mike replies “Not at all...cause I’ve got my team here and we’re enough to finish you.”
The seven all lunge at him and they share blows... Tortakamu then flies into the air and starts bombarding the Rangers and the surrounding buildings with energy pulses.
“No you don’t...” says Mike under his breath
The back of his shield changes and two dragon like wings materialize out as well as a rocket and he jets into the air towards Tortakamu. Mike, with sword in hand and gun in the other, attacks Tortakamu. Slashing and shooting, getting a good hard blow to Tortakamu’s head. Mike then grabs onto Tortakamu tight, holding him close, turning towards the ground, flying at his fastest speed, Tortakamu’s back facing the ground as they get closer and closer. They land with a giant explosion into the ground. Mike slowly gets up and looks at a defeated Tortakamu.
Mike walks out of the small crater he created and walks towards the others, who congratulate him. Thinking that Tortakamu is done for, he all of a sudden gets to his feet and grows to big bad giant size.
All the Rangers call their zords, they fight, and Tortakamu is once and for all, finally defeated. Not even buried this time, the thing is completely obliterated.
The Ranger’s return to the fortress, Kimberly is back on her feet, still a little groggy, but no longer at death’s door.
Mike runs to her and hugs her, telling her how happy he is she’s alive, with her telling him how proud she is for what he’s accomplished. He tells her he’s done it all for her.
Alpha mentions that the leader of the U.N. wants to discuss what just happened in Egypt, Tommy goes off to another room to talk with the leaders.
Zordon once again congratulates Mike for what he’s done today. Mike then walks up to Zordon and tells him that he’s been thinking, with Zed, Rita, and Mondo, becoming more powerful every day, they need another Ranger team on Earth, and asks, if Zordon will allow it’s creation, that he’d like to be on that team.
The other Rangers agree with Mike’s idea as well as Zordon, Aisha asks who will lead the team, suggesting perhaps Mike. Mike tells them that he should not lead seeing how he’s only been a Ranger for less than a day and suggests that Kimberly should lead the team.
Kimberly is of course stunned and tells him no, but Mike says to her he saw how she fought in the fortress the day before and could tell that she’s missed it and that the team would benefit from her leadership.
She mulls it over for a moment and finally agrees that she’ll do it.
Time passes and the new Ranger team has been established in central United States, in Boise, Iowa. Seeing how the country would be a safer spot in case if there’s ever an attack. Kimberly, Mike, Tommy, and Billy, search and decide who the other members of the team will be. Which will consist of:
Red Ranger: Kimberly Hart
Red Dragon Ranger: Mike Secord
Blue Ranger: Kai Chen
Black Ranger: Leo Corbett
Green Ranger: Damon Henderson
Yellow Ranger: Karone (in this universe she was never Astronema)
