This is the discussion thread for the first episode of Power Rangers:RPM which will air on ABC on Saturday, March 7th at 12 noon EST.

I'll ask that we all wait until the episode airs to post here, and if there are any mods reading this, it would be appreciative if you could sticky this thread and lock it until Saturday. Thanks!

Very... different. And I mean that in a good way. It was excellent. Didn't actully see the Rangers til the very end, but that's fine.

Interesting how they run the end credits over the last scene of the show, with no "end theme".

It's definitely different, but different in a good way. So far seems to be the best Disney series, I like both the Rangers and the Villians.

I've just finished watching fade to black and I have a few things to say..
~The way they 'summon'' thier zords looks cooler than in Go-onger.
~The rangers talk through the zords, so in a way the zords do talk, just not on thier own.

Just 6-7 months till RPM priemieres here in the UK :/

I have to agree with what everyone has said so far. It was definitly different but in a very good way.
I like how they show the plain RPM logo after the serious scenes, it made it seem very dramatic and how the actually have guards that carry guns and aim them at people

Really different from any other Ranger season. Evil has actually won this time, and the rangers are trying to take back the planet. Should be a good season, but I'm still kinda mixed on it so far.

I agree with everyone I very different style than others...I loved the fight scenes and Ziggy isn't as bad as I had thought. Did feel we focus more on Dillon and Ziggy than getting to know the other rangers. The way Dr K speaks reminds me of how L or Kira from Deathnote would communicate to others...I like it. Thus far I'm liking the show it seems much more mature than previous seasons...almost PRTF maturity.

I honestly feel myself not wanting to wait a whole week for the next episode of this, that hasn't really happened in a while.

Great episode, loved the introduction of all the rangers. Ziggy is by far the best so far, shortly followed by Dillon. Not really liking Scott yet, but i'm sure i'll like him more soon.

Interesting. As of this post, I literally just finished watching it on youtube. I'm about to start Fade to black in a minute. It was interesting, I'll say that much. I gope in this other episode, I hope they show how the rangers got their powers, cause unless I missed something, they didn't show how Red, Blue and Yellow got their powers.

Yeah, they're not shying away from the fact that people are dying as a result of the Venjix network. I'm saving my actual review for later (it's rather late here) but I'm giving this premiere a solid 5 out of 5.

Don't particularly care for the theme song.

Episode 1: The Road to Corinth
Rating: 5/5

First things first ... I can't say I'm all that fond of the Power Rangers RPM theme song. I realize I felt that way about Overdrive and that theme really ended up growing on me, but I just can't see that happening with this one. Only time will tell, though. For now, it's lookin' a little doubtful.

That aside, though, this is one of the best premieres I've seen and definitely the best when it comes to Disney. It's clear the producers and so on are really putting some thought into this. I like how they are not sugarcoating the more serious issues, particularly when it comes to this specific plot in which the villains have already won. I realize that this is done a lot for the kids but it's nice to see the effects of the forces of evil portrayed in more realism.

The premise I mentioned just above actually brought to mind the novel "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," where Voldemort actually wins the war and all hell breaks loose, and the only resistance lies in Harry Potter's secret mission to destroy the Horcruxes, and the minor, underground resistance movements going on against the Voldemort-controlled Ministry. If Corinth is the only safe place on Earth, that's a pretty small resistance movement.

It's great to see James Gaylyn back, this time as Colonel Truman and the father of the Red Ranger. I enjoyed Gaylyn's work as Zeltrax and his onscreen role in Wendy Wu, Homecoming Warrior and it's great to have him onscreen in a Power Rangers series. There's some real potential with the subplot of his relationship with his son, and that doesn't seem, at the moment, all that different from Mr. Collins's relationship with Wes back in Time Force. Not very much time was spent on this in this episode but it's clear they're going somewhere with this.

It's interesting that RPM has departed from the tradition of the "telling the Rangers about their powers, etc." scene and skipped right into the story. The core three Rangers simply showed up near the end of the episode which was awesome. Here's hoping the writers will show us how that happened in a future episode, but it's clear this happened sometime during "a year later." They also dispensed with "rookie Red" which is nice. I'm hoping for more character development with Scott, Summer, and Flynn but with the way this series has started out it looks like that's only a matter of time. Speaking of which, it's great to have an Irish Ranger on the team. (That is an Irish accent, isn't it?)

Ziggy is actually quite the fun character. I'm glad the writers had the presence to actually make fun of his name within the show, something they've never done with some of the ... well, different names that have popped up over the years. Ziggy could end up annoying me to death later on but right our soon-to-be Green Ranger is pretty fun to watch. It's Dillon who's the real mystery here, and it's nice that the writers have already set his subplot in motion rather than waiting until mid-series like they did with Mack. Though it's certainly true that clues about Mack were scattered through the early season of Overdrive, it's nice that RPM is dealing with Dillon's cyborg mystery in the first episode. Speaking of which, Daniel Ewing does look a little like James Maclurcan, just more muscular and ... well, intense. He's one of the better actors I've seen on Power Rangers lately, taking second only to Holly Shanahan in her role as Camille.

A great start to what appears is going to be a great series. Five out of five.

'The Road To Cornith' is a good episode. It's a different start to a Power Rangers series. There are a lot of questions in this series. I hope that we'll get an answer, soon.

I like the episode it was perfect :D

*The part of the car and the driver was like one of those movies of a dasastrous futures.
*The castle of Venjix reminds me of the castle of The Machine Empire.

*Another thing, wasn't it Venjix the name of one of the generals of the machine empire in forever red?

If people have watched the movie Eagle Eye, they'd find the concept of Venjix somewhat similar. Computer virus taking over the infrastructure and threatening humanity. The basic concept is same, but still, I love the route PR has taken with this. It's very different indeed but that's the best thing about the premiere. An excellent introduction into this new RPM post-apocalyptic world. Couldn't have been done better IMO. Props to Eddie.. everything seemed perfect.

The idea of that one master and his three generals is getting old but aside from that, I love everything about this show. It keeps you hooked for the time you're watching this. Onto the characters, Scott is quite the leader character, Summer, I like her, especially in the next episode. Her interaction with Dillon was yet another plus point. Flynn is actually cool, but I sometimes have a hard time understanding what he's saying and have to rewind. I dunno if it's Irish or New Zealandish accent (I know that's not a word, just said it to get the point across). With Ziggy, it's good to see a light-hearted and somewhat realistic character. Milo's acting is good enough not to cross that line into overkill, so the comedy actually is amusing unlike with the past actors. Dillon's character is no doubt the most intriguing atm. I have a feeling he'll be a different cyborg to Mack.. and he might have some inside info from Venjix. Might even turn out to be General Crunch's son or something lol.

Overall, this is definitely one of the best premieres I've seen. I loved how they impressed upon the seriousness by keeping the dark stuff dark and so on. Keep this up and we have a great series on our hands...

First of all, Flynn has a Scottish accent not an Irish accent. I know they can sound very similar, but there is a difference if you listen closely. :) Secondly, I thought R.P.M. was kind of an odd mixture of Mad Max (a loner driving a muscle car through the desert and kicking ass), Terminator (Skynet/Venjix), and The Matrix (Zion/Corinth). I also really didn't like the theme song; way too simplistic and repetative and the vocals were unappealing. Anyway, I like the darker tone of R.P.M. and I'm liking all of the Rangers so far except maybe Flynn and Scott simply because they don't have much character development yet. The darker tone and good writing haven't quite made up for the cartoonish design of the zords, but they didn't really have anything else to work with, so I just have to let that slide.

Flynn is pretty awesome, it's pretty cool Rangers, with accents. I love his line when Dr. K asks them if they have a visual on the attack.

"They be a bit hard to miss.."

Whatever his accent is it really is hard to listen while trying to understand what he says. He could at least fake an America accent like ALL the other rangers from a different country. (The guy who played Bridge actually talks like that)

But hey that is his voice and I hope thier is some way we can change it but saddly not (yet...)

To all that concerns about flynn, (actor: Ari * I have the same name) it is an irish accent. Ari actually has a heavy New Zealand Accent and he "can" speak in an american accent. but i think they chose him to speak like that to emphasize the severity of earth's current situation. I addition, I think this season is a play on alot of themes from other movies/shows. but if you really look at it, everything has be said and we're merely restating what has been done.

Wrong.

Watch this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OexuFE03hZk) of Craig Furguson interviewing Ewan McGregor on The Late Late Show at about 2:11 and this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDQd49rEF_0) of Robin Williams doing an exaggerated Scottish accent. After doing that, watch this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuOcOlizDEk&feature=related) of Road to Corinth at about 3:00 and you'll see that Flynn's accent is Scottish. Notice how you can really hear the tongue coming into play with the unique Scottish sound whereas with an Irish accent the sound comes more from the roof of the mouth and the teeth. You can hear examples of Irish accents by watching this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vry1corExlw) of an interview of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson where they talk about a movie they worked on together and this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wULdcQUZ18c) of Chloe Agnew being interviewed on an Irish late night talk show. You can also hear a side-by-side comparison of both Southern and Northern Irish accents to a Scottish accent in this clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UgpfSp2t6k&feature=related) of a stage actress cycling through various accents that she's learned to do; her accents aren't perfect, but I think they're good enough for a demontration of the difference between Scottish and Irish accents.

Wrong.

You just wasted a whole lot of time, especially since you're completely off-base. Ari Boyland is a Kiwi. His accent is from growing up in New Zealand, and the producers decided that Flynn would speak the same as Ari. He isn't Scottish or Irish, and his accent is by definition neither.

I gotta say, WOW! I'm amazed at the fact that the focus is on Dillon who ISN'T the Red Ranger. Ziggy's gonna be a great character. His Willy Wonka line was brilliant. I've seen Fade To Black too and that one's just as good. I'm lovin the darker theme and maturity. I think this season will kick ass. I'm gonna watch it every week. Waitin in the UK takes too long lol

And it sucks for you guys cause I just read a couple days ago that Youtube is blocking UK music videos (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7933565.stm). Money reasons and such. I think that means that they might also block stuff like PR. But I could be wrong.

First of all, can you point me to a website where the producers actually stated that they wanted the actor to use his native accent? Secondly, just because someone grew up in a specific geographic location, it doesn't mean that their accent will always by definition be the accent from that geographic region when they're using an accent from a different geographic region. If Ari Boyland chooses to use what sounds like a Scottish accent for his character, he's using a Scottish accent; the accent might have a small hint of Kiwi in it, but it's still a Scottish accent regardless of where he grew up. Think about Anthony LaPaglia: he grew up in Australia yet he speaks with an American accent in Without a Trace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpX0fL3_8ek&feature=related) and a British accent in Frasier (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2d3_54k_zk). Accents are defined by how they sound, not by where speakers of the accents grew up. If you can point out the characteristics that make Flynn's accent a Kiwi accent and not a Scottish accent, I'll stop asserting that he's using a Scottish accent. Otherwise, you don't have a valid counter argument.

No one would be having this argument if it was the Green Ranger with the Scottish accent (because than everyone would be comparing him to the Shrek Ranger)

I must say, I'm impressed. Just judging by the name of the series beforehand, I thought I wasn't really going to like this one, but I've got a good vibe from it so far. This might be the PR series that gets me back into the show, since lately I haven't found the urge to watch anything past iS.

I really like the movie style cinematography, it's very different as stated before. I am almost ready to say the best series opener I've seen in Power Rangers. It had a really good buildup to the rangers, and I like the mystery of Dillian's past. I just can't believe how good this series is so far. Just watched all the episodes that there is so far.
