Thanks, ForeverBlue. ^^

Okay, so we know so far that Disney doesn't like the talking Zords, and that they want it to move it away from the racing theme because it is similar to Cars. Plus, Disney AND Bandai don't like RPM as the title. However, these can still change down the road, since it's a bit early.

We're still awaiting the logo and the final FINAL title for PR2009.

Im interested to see if PR 2009 will start off with 3 Rangers and add 2 like in Super Sentai, or just start with 5. I also want to see how soon into the season it takes for the Go-On Wings to appear

I'd imagine they'll use the standard Red rookie plot for the first two episodes but substitute the Black and Green Rangers. The Red, Blue, and Yellow Rangers will either already be Rangers or will be the first to accept new powers and the Black and Green Rangers will either be the new guys joining the existing team or they will hold out and not accept their powers until the end.

Since Go-onger introduced Black and Green in the second episode and Disney always combines the first two episodes of Power Rangers into one hour-long episode, I can't imagine they'd waste time establishing them as a team of three before adding the next two...and if they did, it would be similar to Wild Force or SPD where the team already existed.

"RPM" could be the title made by fans for fans, just like it was the fans that put the "muthaf*in' snakes" line into Snakes on a Plane.

That's what it is. PA said so. So, if RPM is kept as the final title, then it will stand for Racing Performance Machines.

We also know that:

Bruce Kalish- Executive Producer for Power Rangers SPD, MF, OO, and JF, will be gone next year. PA had confirmed that to be true, some time ago.

It is RUMORED, I repeat, RUMORED, that the cast and crew of Power Rangers will move to Canada.

As in moving the filming of the show that is and yes the crew too. Yeah, just a rumor...its a might be rumor actually. We just haven't heard anymroe about that since.

If it does happens, we would be back to our usual american/canadian PR actors and actresses as rangers and of course back to the number of episodes we have had and also our tradional team ups :p Maybe we'll still get a few from over seas.

As for the name, I just don't want it to be called, "Something Something Force."

Forgive me, because I haven't been on top of the Sentai/Ranger scene, but... It seems that every time I see something for PR'09, it says, "and it will probably be live-action." What's with that?

Earlier this year, or rather late last year..
Err..
At some point..

The rumor that Power Rangers, the series/television show was going to be animated, in-light of whatever went right with Super Legends I assume, began swirling around the internet. Thus, we're not sure of what Disney has packed away in it's closet of unhappiness. So.. At the moment, the Power Rangers Animated rumor is still just that, a rumor. Most members, last I checked, were against an animated version of our multi-colored heroes.
But that is why you see "probably going to be live-action" in most of the PR2009 discussions..

Does that answer your question?

Canada would be cheaper to film in than New Zealand, thus allowing for a larger budget when it comes to things like episode count.

In case you didn't know....starting with Mystic Force, the budget was getting very low which caused no team up and only having 32 episodes. OO also only had 32 episodes but had the anniversary team up. The reason why the budget is very low is that too expensive to film PR in New Zealand now. I believe that Disney only filmed PR in New Zealand in the first place just for a change. I think Disney knew that the low budget would happen within a few years after moving to New Zealand.

Thats why we have that rumror about that Disney might move PR back to the US but this time, Canada for the first time. If that happens, the budget will go back to being very high.

We had a rumored idea about having a NS/JF team up...it was planned but it got cancelled due to the writer's strike that was happening in the US. Ninja Storm was the first New Zealand team and JF was to be the last New Zealand team.....which is why we got the move rumor there because of the very low budget.

Disney stopped filming in California because it was too expensive and they had to use union actors, which they could not afford. Moving to New Zealand allowed them to pay cheaper filming costs and use non-union local actors. However, production costs are going up in New Zealand and they're having trouble affording it anymore. That's why we only have 32 episodes and no longer have team-ups. If the show really is moving to Canada next year, it will save them some money since production costs are cheaper there (many American TV shows and movies are filmed in Canada for this reason) and they can still use non-union local actors. If they save enough money it could translate into more episodes and/or more special episodes like team-ups.

By the way, the Ninja Storm team-up was an April Fool's joke from PA. It was never going to happen.

He probably came up with the Hannah Montana one so we'd be more willing to believe the team-up one since it's infinitely more plausible.

Back on topic, I hope they do move to Canada. I think it's time for another big shake-up. It could do the show good to make some changes. Plus, no offense to the Aussie and Kiwi actors we've had over the last five years because we've had some really good ones, but it would be nice to have actors who don't have to struggle to say their lines in American accents.

That would be a smart move. But they'll have to get a popular ranger, maybe from the Zordon era. I'd suggest Adam since the villains look like they're from the Machine Empire, and he was a Turbo Ranger.

I'm sorry, my opinion is that I disagree..
Although they were 'strong' they were support characters. None of them fit the 6th ranger quality needed for a power house extra. They simply lacked that badass nature, they were support roles.

If anyone should return for females, I would agree that Jen would be the only female capable of being Go-Silver..

We could do a poll on who can be capable of doing the job if Disney was to negotiate a former PR female actress to return for a season...would have to do two threads, one for yellow and one for pink. ----

I've got a couple of suggestions for PR 2009: 1) they could edit out the mecha footage and have the Rangers finish off the monster of the week without resorting to a zord battle (they could get really creative with this arrangement) or 2) they could restore the old Liveman footage and use it instead. I wouldn't be opposed to Disney animating the show for one season, just so long as the quality doesn't drop off from the level of Jungle Fury. It would be wicked if they used an anime studio to produce the show. Anyway, is it just me, or does anybody else get the feeling that the mecha in Go-onger were given such a ridiculous design partly as a reaction to years of suffering the embarassment of Disney's inferior production quality? I heard that an American-Godzilla clone appeared as a villain in one of the Japanese Godzilla films and got its butt whooped by the Japanese Godzilla.

08-05-2008, 11:10 PM
I think I've finally been convinced that the Mecha aren't gonna talk and will stay in the show.

There's another world that has taken over the world of these Animals....And what happens is that they pollute their world so much nothing can inhabit them besides the people that polluted it. The spirits of these animals fuse with vehicles and seek help while trying to warn earth that they're next. The won't have too talk if Power Rangers doesn't want them too. They can just be the spirits of those animals.

It's gonna be pretty interesting to finally hear about PR 2009. And even more interesting to watch.

May ask though..
Because I am indeed, a Sentai Snob, I feel I have to know why some of the contributors of this thread, don't like the idea of talking zords? Or rather.. Are so desperate to not use the talking zords that they would rather animate the show, or worse drag footage from the 80's to fill the gaps..

I'm curious of any of you have watched Go-Onger, have you?

The talking mechs fit into the story, if you remove them, it sort of seems pointless to even use Go-Onger's footage because of the close relationship of the costumes to the zords.
But..

I'm a lowly Sentai Snob.. It just bothers me why some contributors are so desperate to cut out a vital part of the PLOT to the story..

Edit: Just an opinion, and a question, I'm not trying to drag any of you down.

We never said in this thread that we don't like the talking zords...we don't mind the talking zords in a series. Its Disney that is not fond of the talking zordsfrom Go-onger because they don't want the new season to be too similiar to the movie Cars. We still have yet to see the logo and the confirmed title.

Disney is just trying to figure out some factors in the new season to work around the talking zords & the comedy part.

Exactly what ForeverBlue said, Disney needs to make this show different from "Cars".

I also think the Go-Onger Zords are the ugliest that have ever beein in a Super Sentai series, and the fact that their talking zords makes them even more unappealing. The only thing I like from this series (so far) is the suits and that there is a female wildcard

All that being said, i'm still looking forward to PR 2009

Bringing in 80s footage isn't a great idea. I'd like better if they used the Go-onger footage but shot all new zord fights. Perhaps even contract the same company to design all new zords. I know it wouldn't be hard to do. Especially since most of the scenes are CG anyway.

I can't imagine it would be very difficult for Disney to edit the footage so that you wouldn't even be able to tell that they talk and make it look like they're completely mechanical Zords. No, there is no getting around their teddy bear eyes, but at least they wouldn't be talking.

Saban tried as much as possible to keep Turbo a serious season, its the Carranger footage that made Turbo seem goofy.

My only concern for PR 2009 is those dumbass zords! I've been thinking (don't kill me here) that Disney should avoid the kiddy zords and just have next season have no zords at all. Some more emphasis on the morphed fights and more time spent unmorphed building up characters, have a hangout like Ernies Juice Bar from MMPRs1

I want it Ninja Storm style. They all work in an auto parts store or something. Starts of 3 adds 2...Of course for my vision they'd need atleast 40-45 episodes.

Also Disney has been using a lot of their own footage. Especially for ranger fights... This could be the time where they really need to put it to the test.

They have indeed been using a lot of that footage. I think they can make it work and having it like Ninja Storm would simply be amazing. An auto parts store thing would fit the bill for the general theme too.

That's exactly why I think Power Rangers RPM will be better than Go-onger. It's goofiness and unlike Gekiranger, it didn't set up a very high standard for PR to follow. Given that they make it work (like episode 22 of JF was so good), I think RPM could be an amazing series.

Hmm, maybe they'll use more Go-Onger fight footage and lay off their own explo-tastic fight scenes (even though OO's the only one who's overdone it). Still, they could just use the Sentai fight footage.

Probably not. The budget comes from Disney, not the producers. With the show staying in New Zealand, that means the only major change we'll have next year is the absence of Bruce Kalish, who we've learned really doesn't have much to do with the production of the show. Koichi Sakamoto is the one who makes most of the decisions. So it looks like we won't see much of a difference in next year's series.

It would have been nice to see them move production if for no other reason than to see them film somewhere other than the same three locations they've used in every episode this season.

That's not entirely feasible. For one, it would make continuity a nightmare for the editors. It's hard enough for the PR crew to find locations in New Zealand that are a relatively close match to the locations in the Sentai footage. It would near impossible to find third locations in Canada to match the footage of both Japan AND New Zealand. Granted, they don't always do the best job of matching locations, but having the footage split between three different locations would just be too noticeable.

I agree, I have watched Go-Onger for the record and the talking zords fit the story very well.
Having said that, I do think that one or two episodes from Go-Onger won't wind up in RPM at all, one is the episode with the ghosts and forest spirit (unless it's Halloween) and the other thing that I think will be cut out, even though it's important to the plot, may be Hiramekimedes upgrade to Detaramedes and some of his attacks if possible, as some of them are quite scary for little kids.

I am saying that the average American does not want things like zords taking. The whole "bullets problem" is not a hard fix, they just turn them to lasers. Drop it, we are talking about power rangers. The zords never talked like people in wildforce, cole could talk to animals. The shows you listed were created with talking cars in a way that makes sense. Cars and zords never talked in power rangers, and never should. And as far as a Knight Rider remake, every single old show is being remade. TV networks have no originality left, so they are making bad remakes of old shows.

Pretty well explained, that stuff.

Seriously, I don't see how talking zords should be such a big problem. Too similar to Cars? What about the accompanying spandex-dressed human partner for each vehicle? Not to mention the fact that each vehicle is at least 5x (or something like that) your standard vehicle? I do like the fact that they each have their own personalities expressed way better through communication with the rangers in Go-onger. However, if they do adopt it, they should really get rid of that stupid "Doru doru" "V V" "On On" "Gin" "bata bata" "Geta" stuff.... you know, their 'catchphrases'. They're annoying.

Btw, I think Disney might do it. Has anyone thought about talking zords from a marketing point of view? Wouldn't those little kids just love their toy zords talking to them as if they were Power Rangers?

Not having the Zords in MMPR talk like in Zyuranger was a good choice but the fact that Go-onger is primarily on a partnership between the hero and its mecha, I think the zords need to talk in this one, it'd have a cars vibe but it'd be different and personally I think it's a good idea.

My two cents on talking mecha:

.01 - Having distinct personalities instead of just being tools might make the zords more entertaining.

.02 - I remember classic zords and I would've hated it if they could talk. (Dragonzord, Tor, Warrior Wheel...)

That said, I don't think you can separate Go-Onger footage from talking cars. I think Disney should just man up and make it Power Rangers: Cars 2!

My two-year old won't agree. It'll be Cars as far as he's concerned.

Knight Rider is the wrong wrong generation. The comparison isn't wrong, it just isn't going to influence Go-Onger because the people watching (present company excluded) aren't going to remember anything of that show.

Knight Rider also never had a face that I recall. (I could easily be mistaken here, I'm too young to have seen the original.)

No KIT never had a face. But I never knew the zords did in car mode LOL I assumed it would be basically Turbo but hopefully good and with the car talking like KIT through the computer inside.

With those zords, I am only thinking 1 thing, "Bob the Builder". They look just like the cars from that show.

Like I said before, I fear for the next season. I don't see much that I can even think to base a good story around. Things like that will be the downfall of Power Rangers, and who do we have to thank? Not Disney, but Japan. The reason Power Rangers became popular was because it was nothing like anything else, then when similar shows came out, Power Rangers still came out with a better show. But now, I cant see why the fan base would grow. The writters are bad, there is nothing but random explosions, and Japan is not helping things at all. This might jus be setting up for the worst season of all time. I knew the zords were bad, but I was not ready for something that stupid. Thanks a lot Japan:mad:

Jungle Fury is the perfect example of how good Disney's editing department can be. They took source footage that, personally, I thought was ridiculous, too, and have turned it into their best season.

Instead of fearing, how about waiting? Seriously, you've made your point and you obviously haven't seen the sentai version. I completely disliked the concept too, but they pull it off in such a fashion that it's not overdone and it's passable. It seriously isn't going to make the entire show suck; it's barely one minute from the entire episode. What will make the entire show suck will be the over-the-top explosions, crappy acting and bad fight scenes. But since we haven't seen neither, we'll have to wait for that too. (read that part carefully, I said that just as an example).

Is this in the Sentai section? No! I have the right to voice my opinion, and as far as I am concerned, I don't care about Japan's story. I have only seen the first 6 minutes of the first episode. Just because it worked in Japan does not mean it will work in America, remember, there is only a small following of Sentai in America. If you can handle some one voicing their concerns, leave.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, if some one calls the footage ridiculous, that is their opinion. Who are you to say they can't have an opinion that is not yours?

ThisSpaceForRent

I don't agree with the way you put that, exactly, RyanRXP, but I do agree. It's hard around here to have an opinion, especially one that's in the minority, because a thousand and one people will love to tell you how 'wrong' you are.

Let me take this moment to say that CONTESTING an opinion isn't the same as DISMISSING one. I, personally, have done a lot of the former (contesting) in recent months around here.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, yes. Everyone is even entitled to disagree...BUT it should always be done in a respectful, mature, and intellegent manner.

Just my opinion, but as always, it's one based in logic.

By that same stretch, I will say that worrying about a season before it premieres based on it's Sentai counterpart is silly to me because, as I keep saying, I'm of the opinion that they are two different things. They share premises but their point of views are completley different. I happen to like that trait...others, obviously, do not.

I say, let's bide our time until RPM premieres and THEN make our decision. Let's base our opinion solely on that show and not judge it in regards to it's Sentai counterpart.

Adaptation, at it's core, means to change something; to adapt it to different situations and scenarios...therefore, you can't prejudge the adaptation based on what it's adapted from. Again, just my opinion...

Agreed wholeheartedly. I've seen Dekaranger (SPD's counterpart) and SOME of Magiranger (Mystic Force's counterpart) and both of them look a bit more silly compared to their Disney counterparts. In uniform though, the fighting scenes look great and work well regardless of the series. Let's wait and see how Disney makes this work.

And regarding one of the earlier posts, I would like to see a family-oriented team for a change. Maybe the Engines could reflect a trait/hobby about that person i.e. Red-wants to go fast (Speedor), Blue-always confident (Buson), Yellow-upbeat and knows how to cheer her siblings/friends up in times of trouble (BearRV), Green-likes to swim/very calm and collected (Birca), Black-very hard-edged, protective of his siblings (Gunpherd). The mentor could be a family member, although I wouldn't mind seeing Bomper as a mentor also. As for the wings, they could be family members or they could be the parents/mentors (we've had mentors become rangers in the past as well-think RJ, MF's mentor (her name escapes me), Kruger, Tommy, Jen-sort of) and again with the traits-Gold-loyal, hardworking (Toripter), Silver-caring, loving (Jetras). As for Jumbo-whale, Carrigator and the mystery Engines, they could just be like the animal spirits in WF/JF and help the other rangers out. I don't think the holograms will make an appearance, although it would be nice. Definitely get rid of the "Doru doru" etc. though.

I was reading back a few pages. And RyanRXP or whatever ur sn is. Ur statements really annoyed me. So what if the zords talk or if they make animal sounds? The point of the PR series is not to judge by the way it is brought to us but by the story itself. Each series has their own individual message and I believe that's what we should be judging and not whether the zords can talk or not.

Wild force was bad I agree but had enough redeeming qualities to at least keep me entertained e.g the Merrick story line actually had me exited to watch.

3. Wild Force was a Disney season(but still made by the old staff)

For me, Disney has only made ONE unforgivable blunder-- OO. NS, DT (<3), SPD, MF, and JF are all SOLID seasons, in my utmost opinion.

Also, I don't think Wild Force was a Disney season. In fact, I'm almost certain it isn't.

And you really CAN'T use an opinion to stand behind if it isn't logical or if it's stated abrasivley and as if it's the only word around. Just sayin'.

I use the word 'opinion' a lot. I pretty much have to after a nasty incident on the 'Old Board' caused me to be more careful with the way I word things, because no matter what the public opinion might be, I respect everyone's right to have their own opinions....I'm just opposed to the way certain people state them. There's a way to be tactful and respectful and mindful of others when discussing things, and a lot of people around here are ignorant to that fact, I feel.

All I'm saying is it's not fair to judge the show (or even to be worried about it) before, y'know, actually seeing it.

RyanRXP

This is a discussion on 2009's Power Ranger season, I don't like most of Disney's seasons(If you take out Wild Force, I only liked 2), so I can not put much faith in them, pluss I don't like what I am seeing from Japan, so I'd say I have some ground to stand on.

I believe Disney bought Power Rangers late in the planning stage of Wild Force, so they couldn't do much of anything(legal issues), so it was the last Saban seaon, and the first Disney season. It still was made by the same people that made all of the older seasons, so they left Saban's name on the logo, but they owned Saban(the company) So you won't be wrong saying if it's Disney, or Saban.

And I am not saying it will be bad, just that I fear that it might. No matter how negitive I get, I will always give it a chance. I have the same mind set about this one as I did about Jungle Fury. I refuse to judge a show before 10 episodes.

But like I said, my ranking of the seasons are just my opinions
example:
Most people liked SPD, I didn't like it, but that is just my opinion.

I was ranking them based on how much I liked them. I apoligize to people that were confused about that.

For the matter you keep mentioning aspects you don't like about Go-Onger that should be changed, left out, or how it should be interpreted yet you haven't watched more than one episode (if you did let me know now).

Go-Onger represents "RPM", other wise known as Power Rangers 2009. If Jungle Fury is any indication of we can't expect what see in Sentai I say go watch Go-Onger, get used to the mecha, get used to the suits, get used to the things you know will be in RPM.

I like government-based power rangers if it suits the season. E.g Lightspeed rescue had rescue zords and so it made sense for government, But Ninja storm would have made no sense with government.

The future one could well. I just hope it doesn't happen. After SPD the future timeline made no sense as it was set in the year 2025 but yet they had better technology and Aliens living on earth. Yet 3000 years later they didn't?

I don't want it to have it be the year 2020 with even more advances. But I do think the setting is important. Can't be Ninjas as it's only a year since Jungle Fury.

I'm thinking Possibly a Wild force type theme with the Animals changing in to cars and stuff. That could work (basing it of hawk looking car i saw) but then that is close to jungle fury in a way as well.

To me this leaves High school (so it would be like Turbo but good) or A race car circuit like I previously mentioned. Maybe with most of the rangers been race car drivers. The red one if he is a rookie again could be a pit stop crew member who wants to race.

Disney will take the comedy part out as well for sure just like Saban did for Turbo as Carranger had so much comedy. I hope he's Go-On Red, but I can see him being Go-On Green also:confused:

Really good casting!

I can see him as Green and Blue. Not too sure about Red.

Legendary.

Weirder things have happened. I wouldn't be shocked if he was Red but I see him as green.

He would best fit as the Green Ranger sense he looks like a shy person

Well, we don't know what direction Disney is going with the characters, so you can't say which he will be.

For all we know, he might be Red, or he might not even be a ranger.

Zokado!

He could be Red.
