Well from what we have seen, No he doesn't but he is an spirit himself.

Well you guys know how each teacher a symbol of thier animal spirit on thier uniform or somewhere. Well I was on youtube and found a symbol of Master Mao's robe. But I cant figure out what animal it is.

Well, we haven't seen him use his spirit so it's pretty hard to say he doesn't have one. I'm sure all people who went to the school has an animal spirit. Though we might see it later on in the season, maybe at the finale. But you never know, masters still need a spirit to use the powers they have. And in the first episode when he turned into spirit, we see a cat spirit or something xD.

EDIT: I looked it up on PR wiki. and I found out that he controls the caracal spirit.

Well the cat seems to fit him better than anything, An cat is peaceful and some may say Wise. I guess that describes Master Mao alot.

Master Mao's spirit is probably a cat, as a refernece to the PR/SS fans who know who Master Shafu is

I haven't really stuck with a series since Zeo, and parts of Time Force, so this is the first time I've heard of Master Mao. Bear with me, here :p

It's no cat or lynx it's a tribute to Master Shafu! And Mao means cat in chinese.

Mao in Chinese, or more simply how it seems to match "Meow" when pronounced (or makes one think of it). I thought those were pretty obvious hints. If not that, then comparing Mao with Geki ought to have nailed it, seeing they had the Felis-Ken user Shafu as their mentor, a catty humanoid. Besides, Mao definitely would've had a spirit himself, or how would Lily and Theo have learned how to produce their own? You can't teach how to produce animal forms if you can't do it yourself lol.
