Summary:

Something's coming. Something big. Something involving almost every past Ranger. As the Rangers prepare for this unknown threat, Wes begins creating the organization that will be known in the future to expand to the universe as 'S.P.D', and later expanding to across time itself as 'Time Force'. In an effort to create an improved Power Rangers team, more powerful than any previous to it, Wes seeks out five teenagers who have been trained by Rangers themselves, with hope that maybe they will be the ones to save us all.

And now for the story...

Episode 1: Once A Ranger

The door creaked as Wes Collins entered the sanctuary of the original Red Ranger.

It wasn’t that Jason was too lazy to oil the hinges, it was like a subtle alarm, and before Wes could open his mouth to announce his arrival, Jason already knew he was there.

Paranoia it may be, but once a ranger, always a ranger.

“You’re late.” The middle-aged man emerged from an unseen room. To think that this tall, black-haired man with intimidating, large muscles and a fierce stare had once attended a peace conference.

“I was –” Wes wasn’t even given time to think of an excuse. If you wanted respect from Jason, you’d have to earn it.

“Ironically, you were a Time Force Ranger.” Little humor was in his voice.

“I had forgotten you were this scary face to face.” Wes laughed nervously, trying to lighten Jason’s frosty mood. Maybe it was the gray walls of his office, Wes wondered. No one had been able to figure out what exactly it was that Jason did, they just knew he worked in an office and earned a hell of a lot of money by doing so. “I was less intimidated over the phone.”

“The last time we talked face to face was on the moon.” Jason smiled for once, happily reliving the experience, until once again, his face resumed the same, serious expression. “Why do you need the power coins? I thought you and your Silver Guardians already bought all the technology you need from Operation Lightspeed.” That was Jason for you, business first, friendly chats later.

“We’ve managed to reproduce the Time Force morphers, with help from the Lightspeed technology, but we need a better power source.” Wes explained. It was years in the making, but his dream of expanding the Silver Guardians into something a much larger faction, using teams of Power Rangers were coming closer. “The Silver Guardians have tracked down every single past Power Rangers team, and it turns out that the future Time Force morphers were based on your teams original morphers and coins, and as such yours would suit them the most.”

“I see.” Jason said, pacing his office, whilst Wes stared at him. The office was almost bare, a desk, a chair, a computer, a painting and that was it. “You really are making this new Ranger Team aren’t you?”

“Yes. According to Tommy and Andros they’re going to be needed very soon.” There was a slight look of frustration on Wes’s face, before he tried to change the subject. “Which, reminds me, I trust you have your student prepared?”

“He’s excited.” Jason replied. “He might come off as a little bratty and immature, but he’s a good kid on the inside. Did you bring your end of the bargain?”

“Here it is, the Q-Rex morpher.” Wes produced the morpher from the pocket of his suit, much like the one Jason was wearing. “Though I don’t think it would be as much use to you. As I told you previously, the Q-Rex morpher and my Time Force morpher only have a couple of good morphs left in it. And I don’t think it will be able to sync with you -”

“We’ll see Wes.” Jason smiled mysteriously, taking the morpher and immediately placing it on his wrist. It beeped in acknowledgement. “And now for your Power Coins.” What Wes saw next was crazily amazing, and somehow very Jason-like – simply cool.

“Back to action.” Jason spoke in a clear, loud voice, and Wes looked around as metal screens covered the fourth-story window and the door, and the wall with the painting on it flipped around. A red light illuminated the room, as the wall that had been flipped around now had a variety of rather threatening weapons hanging from it, some he recognized Jason having used, and some that he never wanted to see himself up against. In the middle of the wall was a safe, which Jason walked up to and simply stood in front of. Without a sound or noise, the safe swung open, and Jason reached inside to produce five golden coins, each with distinctive cracks in the middle of them.

Wes could only ask one question, “why the red light?”

“Red’s the coolest color.” Jason said, handing Wes the five power coins. “Power down.” And everything returned back to normal, as if nothing had happened.

“Are you richer than me?” Wes asked in amazement. “Because I have to buy myself something like this!”

“Tommy’s in on this, right?” He ignored Wes’s question, and Wes nodded.

“He’s providing the Zords.” Wes said offhandedly, “he’s some sort of scientist now.”

“Interesting.”

“Well, we both got what we wanted.” Wes smiled, “I expect to see your student in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the help, may the power be with you.”

“May the power be with you.”

Jason secretly smiled to himself once Wes had left the room. He looked at the Q-Rex morpher on his wrist, and removed the Power Coin he had not given to Wes from his pocket.

“Back to action.”

- -

“Where the hell is Jason’s student?” Eric muttered angrily to Wes, who shrugged.

“I don’t know, Jason said he’d be here. I guess we have to start without him.” Wes whispered back, and they surveyed the group of four individuals in front of them.

A bunch of misfits.

The four were standing in the meeting room of the Silver Guardians headquarters, facing Eric and Wes who were appropriately dressed in their uniforms. The four of them sat on chairs on the opposite end of the table, each with different personalities and attitudes that were very likely to clash.

“You four have been chosen because you’re the best choices.” Wes smiled, the first girl seemed to smirk at the compliment, whilst the other girl smiled politely. Of the two boys, one had a deathly serious look on his face, and the other looked indifferent. “You all have been trained by former Rangers, and you all possess special talents and abilities that we need.”

“If there’s any time to introduce yourselves to each other, it’s now.” Eric continued where Wes left off. He had a perfect posture on his chair – these apparently ‘talented’ teenagers did not look like they were anything out of the ordinary, save for Ethan, the serious one. “We know who you are, but the other three don’t. You first.” Eric nodded to the blonde girl who was still smiling politely. “Name, age and training.”

“I’m Alexis Stevens, I’m 17 years old, and I was trained in the Wind Academy.” Her blonde hair was tied back neatly in a pony tail, and she had bright, innocent-looking blue eyes.

“Wind Academy?” The boy next to her asked, and she nodded.

“For ninjas.” She stated simply, and the boy nearly fell off his chair.

“Whatever you want to believe.” The boy said, and she simply shook her head, deciding to ignore his comment. At least she was the one dressed casually, and not in an army-like uniform.

“She’s telling the truth, Ethan.” Wes sighed, they were already not getting along. “You might as well go next, since you already started speaking.”

“Sorry, sir. As he said, my name is Ethan Emmet, I’m 19, and I was trained here, by the Silver Guardians, in the Elite Force.” The brown-haired boy made sure to emphasize the last part, before returning to his serious expression, as the next girl began without being asked to.

“My name is Emily Fox.” The brunette sat lazily, her long, slender body slumped on her chair, knowing they all had their attention on her. “I’m 18, and I was trained by a former Pink Ranger. And let’s just say I’m not here by choice.”

“Nice attitude.” The Korean boy next to her said, and she just scrunched up her face towards him. “Seeing as it’s my turn, my name is Nathaniel Lang, and I’m 18.” He didn’t mention his previous training.

“And where were you trained, Nathan?” Wes asked, knowing he didn’t want to admit it.

“I was trained in the future.” Nathan muttered, knowing it would get a reaction.

“Fabulous!” Emily called out sarcastically. “A Ninja, a wannabe-soldier and future-boy over here! I wonder who the fifth guy is!”

“Charlie Ward, 18, and a living Adonis.” The voice that replied came from the tall, blonde boy standing at the door, a grin on his face, contrasting the expressions of the other four. “Sorry I’m late, it was hard to find the building, and even harder to find the room.”

“Just how did you get past the guards?” Eric said, both annoyed and interested.

“Walked.” Charlie continued smiling, before saying, “so when are we getting to the action?”

- -

Eric was not pleased. It was day two of their initial training, and while he had to admit that some of them had extraordinary talents – Nathan for one could teleport, and Alexis could render herself completely invisible – they could not work as a team.

“Get out of my way, I’ll handle this.” Ethan growled at Charlie, who shrugged and decided to lean against the wall like the other three. They were in the large, training room, a room designed to look like a warehouse, complete with pop-up cutouts of targets. Ethan stepped forward, still in his Silver Guardian uniform. His brown hair was well-kept, and he had the faintest appearance of a stubble. Of them all, Ethan was the oldest, and if it was Eric’s choice he would’ve picked even older and more experienced candidates for the role of the new rangers, but it had turned out that the Power Coins worked best for younger individuals.

“Go.” Eric called out, and Ethan, brandishing his laser gun, ran into the middle of the training room. He had done the test a million times and he had passed them perfectly every time.

Ethan jumped to the left, dodging a laser that came from above – though they couldn’t cause any permanent damage, they hurt if they hit you. He then turned around and fired two blasts into the head of a target that popped out, and then fired again to a target to his left. He rolled away from another laser above him and shot two more targets in front of him. For theatrics, he ran up to the spot where he knew the last target would be, at the end of the room, and just as it popped up he punched it in its cardboard face.

“Easily done.” Ethan turned back to Charlie and smirked. Charlie simply raised an eyebrow, ready for his turn.

“Very well done Ethan, a little bit too theatrical and overconfident, but very well done.” Eric said, maybe he was being bias, but he still thought Ethan was the best out of all of them, and the best candidate for Red Ranger – if it wasn’t for his personality. “Charlie, your turn.” Charlie was the last out of the five of them to go through the course. Nathan was first, having teleported to each target and shooting the targets right in the face. Alexis had gone invisible and destroyed all the targets that way and he wasn’t quite sure what Emily had done, but all the blasts seemed to bounce right off her. He made a mental note to talk to Wes about just which Pink Ranger had taught her.

“Don’t blink, this isn’t going to last long.” Charlie smiled, before pointing to the frowning Emily and winking, “this one’s for you.”

“Great, another overconfident jackass.” Emily replied, her insults were getting heavier by the day – but Charlie knew she was amused.

“Just hurry up and go Charlie.” Ethan called out, and Charlie walked in to the middle of the room. The first turret came out to shoot him, but before it even had a chance, Charlie pulled out a remote, and pressed a button. The boxes and different props that made the room look like a warehouse disappeared, and the whole room was cleared, until it turned into just a normal, blank room. “What the hell?”

“I stole your remote when you weren’t looking.” Charlie smiled, handing the remote to Eric. “I guess that means I get the fastest time.”

“That’s cheating!” Ethan called out and Charlie shook his head.

“That’s winning. And I came out of it without any loss of energy or any scratches. That’s pretty good for me.” Charlie replied, and in mere seconds the two were face to face in the middle of the room, breathing into each others faces. “Jealous?”

“And why do I have to be jealous of an idiot like you, who probably doesn’t even know how to fire one of these guns?” Ethan muttered angrily at Charlie, who was still bearing a cocky smile.

“Because I’m not as ugly as you.” As soon as he said that, Alexis was across the room, trying to split up the two of them, while Nathan and Emily stayed where they were and watched from a distance.

“Looks like I get to be Red Ranger.” Nathan smiled, and Emily simply shook her head.

“You, Red Ranger? You couldn’t even lead a horse to water.” Emily laughed and walked away.

“That was cold and uncalled for!” Nathan called after her, and she continued laughing.

“Only five days of training left,” Eric shook his head, as he left the five of them in the training room by themselves, locking the door on his way out. “You guys can sort your differences out yourselves!”

“Hey, what!” Charlie and Ethan yelled at the same time, watching Eric leave. “This is your fault!”

- -

“How’s the new team going?” Tommy asked Wes and Eric. They were in another room of the Silver Guardian’s headquarters, seated at a round table, accompanied by Andros, Carter Grayson, Cam Watanabe and Andrew Hartford.

“They’re locked up in a room downstairs.” Eric sighed, head in his hands. “They don’t get along.”

“They’ll have to.” Andros said. “We’re running out of time. From what I’ve heard the enemy’s getting closer.”

“Wait, they’re seriously locked in a room downstairs?” Carter asked, and Wes nodded.

“They’re all very talented, as we have stated previously. They’re perfect on paper for the job, but they have some terrible personalities.” Wes replied. “We’ve got two egomaniacs, one really bitchy girl, a comedian and the only normal one is the blonde girl. But seeing as she is the only normal one, her personality clashes with the others.”

“Any idea of who the Red Ranger is going to be?” Cam asked.

“I don’t think any of them are ready to be Red Ranger.” Wes said.

“I thought you said that Ethan kid was a good choice?” Andrew asked, and Eric just smiled.

“He was, but he’s not really that likeable of a guy, and he prefers to do things himself.” Eric replied, as their meeting was interrupted by a harsh beeping noise coming from the room.

“What the hell is that?”

“Video call.” Wes took out a remote, and pressing a button the wall opened up to reveal a large screen.

“Let me guess,” Tommy grinned, “Jason inspired you.”

“Who else?” Wes answered back, and the face of Trey of Triforia appeared on the screen.

“Hello, Trey.” Tommy decided to address the alien, as he knew him the best.

“Tommy, something awful has happened.” Trey was breathing heavily, and they realised that he was bleeding from his chest.

“What happened to you? What’s wrong?”

“It’s Aquitar – it’s been destroyed.”
