Discuss the highs and lows of the Sentai Shows of the 1990s. Also, discuss ways that these shows could've improved.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad
VR Troopers
Masked Rider
Big Bad Beetleborgs
Beetleborgs Metallix
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog
The first show I am going to roast is Masked Rider. I felt that it had a strong beginning (a nice spin-off starting on MMPR) but there's so many things that they could've improved on. For one, given Dex a better transformation sequence than they did. Another thing: His allies.
Masked Rider could've done without Furby before Furby ever existed. I am of course talking about Ferbis.

Yeah,it's not as bad as some people say though. It's just overly cheesy really.
I think Shotaro Ishinomori was a bit harsh to stop Saban adapting any more, especially as there was nothing else to adapt.

I used to watch it and I thoroughly enjoyed it as child, but now as an adult, it looks, as you said "cheesy."

Next up on the chopping block: Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad.
As a kid, I liked it just like I liked every sentai show of the day.
Now: The characters weren't that well written, some of the acting was bad and overall the best part of that show was really their cyberspace robots (http://www.rangercentral.com/tokucentral/database/superhuman_samurai/shsss-ar-vehicles.htm).

SHSSS is the only show of the bunch not made by Saban
PS: I wrote an epilogue to Masked Rider in the form of a PR season he provides powers for

not yet. I am still devising names for Dex's security force based on all the Kamen Riders and Mental Heroes with an insect theme. I call it the Rider Corps.

Niiiiiiice.
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
The Megazord is what impressed me most about the show when I watched my first episode (Different Drum), but I also found the Ranger suits exciting as well as the weapons that could combine and the morphers and morphing sequences. Green With Evil still ranks as one of my favorite multi-parters and I can still remember the excitement I felt at the primetime premiere of the Thunderzords. I can also remember desperately wanting the Deluxe Ninja Falconzord and I still kick myself for not seeing MMPR:TM in the theater. I can remember the shock of seeing the Thunderzords and the Ninja Power Coins destroyed. There were a couple of legendary fights: Evil Green Ranger vs. White Ranger and White Ranger vs. Lord Zedd. Seeing Zedd in the Command Center was thrilling. I could really go on and on about the good points of MMPR, but I won't. Out of the original five Rangers, I felt like Trini was underdeveloped as a character. Billy was annoying in my opinion (sorry Billy fans). Kimberly and Kat could be annoying with their repeated calls for Tommy's help. Tommy moped about too much after he lost his Green Ranger powers and became a spotlight hog when he gained his White Ranger powers. Rocky, Adam, and Aisha were pretty bland characters early on, but they got better. As a kid I didn't notice the lame editting that was done to cover up the absence of Thuy, Walter, and Austin, but I notice it now and it was lame. Aisha could've been written out of the show better. The Hate Master didn't really bother me as a kid but now that I've seen him again I really never want to see Stop the Hate Master ever again if I can help it. Seriously. I wanted to kill the Hate Master myself when I saw him again. As a kid I wasn't aware that Saban didn't use the Dairanger and Kakuranger footage the way that it was supposed to be used, but now I wish that he had. There are probably more bad things that I can think of, but I'll stop.
Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad
I really liked the cyber mecha, but I honestly don't remember much else about the show except the heroes were all in a band together, Sam had an annoying little sister, I don't think that Sam's mom was ever shown but she was often heard talking from upstairs, and Malcolm (the rich snob of the school) was allied with the cyber villain. Anyway, I think they probably could've picked a better actor for the part of Malcolm.
VR Troopers
I don't think that I liked anything about this show. I hated the theme song, the heroes had weak chemistry, Jeb was annoying, the gravelly voice of Grimlord was irritating, the flashbacks to Ryan's childhood got old really quickly, Ryan was the stereotypical all-American guy, it seemed way too convenient that all three heroes were well trained in martial arts, the community service plot device from Power Rangers was ramped up in VR Troopers, and the story arc of Ryan trying to find his missing dad held no interest for me.
Masked Rider
Loved the idea of a Power Ranger-like hero fighting by himself with no zord, loved the theme song, loved the power-ups (Super Gold more-so than Super Blue), loved the insect theme, and loved the conflict between Masked Rider and Robo Rider. Didn't like Ferbis, didn't like the forced multi-ethnicity in the form of Dex's adoptive Earth family, didn't like that Dex was actually part insect, had no interest in the jewel on Dex's forehead, the Superman-like origin of Masked Rider was unoriginal, the villain designs were kind of lame, the team-up at the end of the series seemed out of place since none of the past Masked Riders had been seen before in shows of their own, and I didn't like the fact that Masked Rider's motorcycle and car talked.
Big Bad Beetleborgs/Beetleborgs Metallix
I liked the insect theme and I liked Shadow Borg. I didn't like Flabber (Ronald McDonald's ghost posing as Elvis's ghost), I didn't like the haunted mansion as the heroes' hideout, I didn't like the comicbook theme, I thought the mecha battles were lame, and I couldn't look up to other kids as heroes.
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog
No. Just no.

Why not Mystic Knights? Was it just too boring for you? I admit it doesn't look that interesting to me in the short bits I watched.
MMPR-Well it's hard not to like but it's a shame we lost Jason,Zack and Trini, especially in the way that we did.
Haven't seen Syber Squad.Cool that there's a human villain though.
VR Troopers-VR Troopers is awesome! My only real complaints are they shouldn't have had Jeb or Professor Hart and they could have used B-Fighter for more series.
Masked Rider-Cool story,bad execution.
Beetleborgs-It was...OK.It was original to have kids as the fighters but the comic thing is too Batman.
Mystic Knights-Haven't seen it.

Okay, Evil Green Ranger. Did you wish every week that he ran into the middle of battle and died?
Why not Mystic Knights? Was it just too boring for you?
I couldn't get into the story and it just seemed like a lame attempt at a medieval version of Power Rangers.

Too bad they didn't wait till after Mystic force to come out with it, because then the Mystic Knights could've been the wizards mentioned in Mystic Force.

Every one of the allies on this page (http://www.rangercentral.com/tokucentral/database/masked_rider/mr-allies.htm) we could've done without. Except for Dex's fellow alien friends from his planet. I would've like to see more of them. Even his grandfather could've been a bit more Zordon and less...whatever he was.
