Well, I have decided to try and write some fanfiction. Seeing as how I have next to no originality when it comes to characters, I am going to be using all of the canon characters {for the most part.} This fic will be rated 14 A for swearing, and quite a bit of violence later on. Lastly, I'd like to point out that the characters are not the exact same people they were in the show. They are similar, but they are NOT the exact same people. Just wanted to point that out. Anyway, here's episode one:
Episode One: The New Age
The year 2025. You may think that just because it’s in the future, there would be hover cars, and people would somehow be able to walk up walls. If you think that, you’d only be half right. Sure, there are hover cars, but only the creatures from Zircon Five can walk up walls. Okay, I’m getting off topic. Let me get to the point.
Earth is now a safe haven for all kinds of creatures, be they human, or some kind of eight eyed aliens. Of course, having all of these different species can cause some serious arguments and fighting, but that’s why we have SPD. Space Patrol Delta, the police that protect not only Earth, but the entire Alpha Five Quadrant. Of course, you wouldn’t know what the Alpha Five Quadrant is… Once again, I’m getting off topic.
My name is Bridge Carson, and I’m a cadet at SPD. I’m not the only one, of course, but I’m trying to stand out among them. Sure, I’m a bit of a goofball, but I offset my teammates. There’re three of us: Schuyler Tate, or Sky, since nobody wants to have to say Schuyler all the time. He’s the serious one of the group, and although he doesn’t talk much, he’s kinda the leader of our little band of misfits we call B Squad.
Then there’s Sydney Drew. The only two words that could be used to describe her are awesome and air headed. I mean, she’s not totally stupid, but just last week, she said her IQ was over 500. Just saying. Her specialty is the fact that she’s always honest, and if we need info out of someone, we can just get her to put on something skimpy. Always works, trust me.
Well, I kind of have a story to tell you. Granted, it’s a pretty long story, so I suggest to get comfortable. Just grab a hover couch and.. wait.. you don’t have hover couches. Geez, how do you people live? Anyway, onto my story.
It had seemed like a normal day. I got up at six in the morning, pulled on my SPD uniform, laughed at Sky’s snoring, and headed to the kitchen to grab some toast. God, I love toast. My surprisingly clean black shoes squeaked against the amazingly clean floor of the SPD base. Wow, Boom had really been doing a good job lately. Boom. Umm, I don’t really remember his first name, since we only ever call him Boom. He’s the janitor, but Dr. Katherine Manx, our resident technology expert, uses him as her guinea pig at times.
I sat down on one of the hover couches in the lounge about ten minutes later, my arm draped lazily over the side of it as I flipped through the newspaper. An article on the front page caught my eye, and I started reading it while munching down on the deliciously buttery toast in my hand.
A Serious Problem For Newtech
As we all know, the mysterious band of thieves have been stealing various objects from the citizens of Newtech City. This is a serious problem, and the complaints to SPD are being seemingly ignored. These thieves work only at night, and have never been seen in person. Among the objects that have been stolen are- Continued on page 1033 A
“That’s total bull, huh?” Came a friendly voice from behind me. I glanced lazily over my shoulder and saw Charlie Nelson, the leader of A Squad. You see, A Squad is special. When you become as powerful as A Squad, you get special treatment. Really special treatment. A Squad were appointed as the strongest cadets over ten years ago, and have kept that title ever since. Being the strongest, Commander Cruger appointed them as the SPD Rangers, and they fight off the bigger threats to the city. You know, Five Hundred foot monsters and stuff.
“Oh hey Charlie, how’s it going?” I asked, setting the newspaper down on the table. Before she could answer, they came by. The other four members of A Squad, Angel, the pink ranger, T’Kanan, the blue ranger, Samuel, the yellow ranger, and William, the green ranger. Like usual, they strutted in like they were tough shit, only giving me disgusted glares before pretty much dragging Charlie away. She gave me a look that said ‘I’m sorry, but you know how things are.’ It was cool though, since I knew she was trying hard. As far as her whole that was bull statement, I knew what she was talking about.
Since the whole thieves case had been too small for the big shot A Squad rangers, they had given the case to Sky, Sydney and I. We’d spent the last three weeks or so undercover, trying to catch these mysterious criminals, and we were pretty sure we were almost there. In fact, once they got up, the three of us were going to follow a lead which told us that the thieves might be hiding out in a warehouse on the outskirts of town.
“Hey Bridge!” Speak of the devil. Sydney walked in behind me, looking as good as ever. She draped her arms around me from behind, hugging me and stealing my toast. It took me a second to realize what she’d done, but as I did, I got to my feet surprisingly quickly.
“No. Gimme my toast back, Syd.” I told her, beckoning her towards me with one hand. With a playful smirk, she took a bite of it. That was it. Taking two steps towards her, I grabbed onto her ear softly, rubbing her earlobe. Old yoga technique, it’s supposed to calm people down or something. She gave out a giddy little laugh before noticing that her hand was about to release my precious breakfast.
“Fist of Iron!” She shouted as she reached into her pocket. My eyes widened in a way that simply said “oh shit” before I found myself sliding backwards into the wall. I probably forgot to mention this, but some cadets are lucky enough to be born with genetic abilities. Somehow, Sydney, Sky and myself had all been granted with our own special abilities. Sydney’s was the ability to turn her hands into any substance she touches. I only just realized how dirty that could be. I’m gonna have to experiment with that later.
I have psychic abilities. No, not like telekinesis, sadly, but I can send waves of energy similar to echolocation which let me see through solid objects. Not that I’d eve use that to be a peeping tom or anything. Who said that? Okay, ONE TIME, but it was all Boom’s fault. But that’s beside the point.
With a smirk, I jumped towards her, but found myself stopped by a blue shield-like object. Sky, of course. He can summon force fields. Lucky bastard. I fell to the ground with a loud thud, looking behind me to see Sky shaking his head. He thought he was so perfect, but always being so angry could not be good for someone.
“You guys done fooling around? You know we have to go check out that warehouse.” He stated before stalking away without waiting for us. Sydney followed behind him, sticking her tongue out at me as she went. Ugh, there goes half a piece of toast I’ll never get back.
Three hours later, we stood outside of the warehouse. It was sad and decrepit, but there was a truck parked in front of it. Most people would just guess that the truck had been abandoned too, but you could see that the dirt had been artificially placed on it. Maybe this lead wasn’t a bust after all.
“Let’s go guys.” Sky whispered through his clenched teeth, pulling his SPD blaster from the holster on his waist. The SPD blasters were actually pretty cool., as they attached to your forearm, and could fire in multiple directions at once. Syd and I did the same thing, and the three of us entered the warehouse together, walking back to back so we were in a triangle. In a world like ours, you never know what you’ll run into.
The sound of creaking wood drew our attention to the far wall, where two shadows were visible. Pointing our blasters towards the two people, we walked towards them slowly.
“SPD, don’t move!” I shouted to them. As we got closer, it was easy to tell that one figure was a guy, and the other one was a girl. It was a little scary what I was seeing though, because unless my eyes were deceiving me, the amount of figures were growing. They had gone from two to forty in less than five seconds.
“Syd, light?” Sky asked, keeping his blaster pointed at the small army. Nodding her head, she whipped one of the metal shards from her pocket towards the left wall, causing it to detonate as she clenched her hand. As the light flooded in, the figures became much clearer. There was an African American male with an amused smile who was wearing an odd amount of red, and a Hispanic woman who only looked to be about 22 and who was wearing a yellow tank top and black jeans. Although strangely, there was thirty-nine exact copies of the woman.
“Nice to meet you SPD bastards, I’m Jack.” he stated, waving at them. Behind them were a giant stack of boxes that covered the wall from ceiling to floor. I believed that it was pretty safe to assume that the stolen stuff was in there. Nodding towards this Jack character to acknowledge his presence, I turned my gaze towards the woman. Err… the thirty-nine women.
“Just call me Z. Now can we kick your asses and get this over with?” She asked. As she got into a fighting position, the copies of her did the exact same thing. I looked around at the crowd of enemies, trying to think up a plan. It actually turned out to be pretty simple.
“Sky, Syd, you guys take Z.. and the other Z’s. I got Jack.” I told them before sprinting towards the man clad in red. In one quick motion, I slammed my palm into his chest, sending him flying into thee nearest wall. He grunted as he got up, giving me a surprised look.
“You’re tougher than I thought. Guess I’ll have to actually try.” He stated before leaping through the air towards me, landing on top of me and pinning my hands above my head with one hand. With his other hand, he continually punched me in the face, the stinging that I was feeling getting worse and worse with every punch. Grunting angrily, I lashed out with both feet, sending him flying away once more.
I spat on the ground, and was not at all pleased to see blood mixed in with my saliva. I glared at Jack, who had just started to get up again, angrily before running towards him once more.
Sky and Syd worked as a pair, jumping over each other as they kicked and punched their way through the Z clones. Out of nowhere, one of the Z clones grabbed hold of both her arms, stopping her from moving. As Sky continued to be swarmed by the remaining clones, the real Z walked towards Syd slowly, an amused smile spreading across her face.
“Little miss SPD is beaten so easily. Wow, you guys are weak.” Z spat, slapping Syd across the face. Z had good reason to hate SPD. Refusing to let the memories resurface, she slapped Syd again before the young SPD cadet glared up at her.
“You think I’m helpless, huh?” Syd asked with an annoyed grunt. before Z knew what was happening, Syd grabbed onto a silver chain hanging around her neck.
“FIST OF SILVER!” She practically screamed, her fist colliding with Z’s chest and sending shockwaves of energy flooding through her. With a gasp of shock, the young Hispanic woman fell to the ground, all of her clones disappearing.
“Stupid… bitch.” She whispered before falling, unconscious on the ground. Blood was dripping from a wound on her chest, and her black hair hung in a mess around her surprisingly soft features. ‘Did I kill her?” The SPD cadet asked herself, getting down on one knee and checking the thief’s pulse. She was alive. That was a relief.
My fist flew towards Jack’s head, but was only greeted by his fist colliding with mine. Angrily, I spun to the left, sweeping towards his feet with my own and knocking him to the ground. He tried to get up yet again, but I pinned him down with my foot, pulling out my SPD blaster and pointing it at his face.
“You ready to give up?” I asked him, but to my immense surprise, he just smiled at me, sinking through the floor and leaving my boot hanging in midair. Looking around quickly, I saw him pop up from the ground, grab the fallen Z and run out.
“Get back here!” Sky shouted, starting to take off after him, but I placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.
“Just leave them, man. We’ll get them next time.”
The ride back to the SPD base was uneventful, as all three of us were tired, beaten and angry. We’d let two civilians, albeit civilians who somehow acquired powers get away. As if we hadn’t faced enough surprises that day, we were shocked to see every alarm on SPD blaring at full volume, and all of the cadets were running around frantically. Something terrible had obviously happened…
